Cano Ozgener, Founder of OZ Arts and CAO Cigars Dies

Cano Ozgener, a successful cigar entrepreneur and founder of contemporary arts center OZ Arts Nashville, died over the weekend. He was 81. The center announced Ozgener's death on its website Monday. According to the post, Ozgener passed away "peacefully at home … surrounded by family," following a "a long battle with cancer." We profiled Ozgener and his son and business partner, Tim, in 2014 for this cover story on the arts center and its potential significance for Nashville's business community. American Friends of Turkey Have Been Announced

Okan Holding Unveils Plans for $300M Tower in Downtown Miami

By Katherine Kallergis | - The Rel Deal - Billionaire Turkish developer Bekir Okan is launching plans for a $300 million, 70-story hotel and condo tower in downtown Miami. Okan Tower will have a 294-room Hilton-branded hotel, 236 condo-hotel units, 153 condos, 64,000 square feet of Class A office space and a restaurant on the 67th floor. Okan Group unveiled the project at an event at its 3,000-square-foot sales gallery in Istanbul on Wednesday, Daniel de la Vega of One Sotheby’s International Realty said. “We felt it would be most strategic to start there,” he added.

FBI Gave $50,000 'Assistance' to Gülenist Who Confessed Role in Op to Overthrow Turkey's Gov't: Court Hearing

Adam Klasfeld, a reporter for Courthouse News said late Tuesday that Gülenist Hüseyin Korkmaz testified in a trial in New York that the Federal Bureau of Investigation gave him $50,000 of "financial assistance" which he said he didn't ask for. Korkmaz has been an important name in the trial and has stood out with his contradictory statements, namely for completely denying while he was in Turkey that "he had anything to do with" the December 17-25 judicial coup attempt perpetrated by Gülenist terror group (FETÖ) to overthrow Turkey's democratically elected government, but later confessing after coming to the U.S. that he was actually the investigator of the case with eight officers working under his command.

According to a study done by Turk of America, the number of Turkish doctors living in the states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut is around 250. Among them are those who continue their careers in the USA after having completed their studies in Turkey, as well as, those who practice medicine in USA as a member of the second generation Turks in the country.

As Kenan Sahin walks through the labs at Tiax, an energy technology development firm located along Boston’s tech beltway, he points to a row of little muffle furnaces in a small beige room. The company’s researchers use the ovens to heat mixtures of metals, producing slight variations of a nickel-rich cathode recipe that Sahin believes will improve the energy density, cycle life, and price of lithium-ion batteries.

Turkish Burger King Operator TFI Files for IPO in New York

Burger King’s biggest franchisee outside the U.S., TFI TAB Gida Yatirimlari AS, filed for an initial public offering in New York. The Turkish company hasn’t yet decided how many American depositary shares it will offer or the price range it will use to market the stock, according to a statement Monday. TFI is planning to go public as early as next year, people familiar with the matter said in September.
