'Lost,' 'Prison Break' Director Bobby Roth Named Creative Supervisor for Russian-Turkish Spy Series

U.S. director Bobby Roth, known for Lost and Prison Break, has been hired as creative supervisor on Sultan moyego serdsa (The Sultan of My Heart), a Russian-Turkish TV series. "I think this is a classic story and the conflicts described in it will be recognizable to viewers in different countries," Roth said in a press release. "Especially I liked the two main characters." The series is produced by KIT Film Studio, which is part of Gazprom Media, the natural gas giant Gazprom’s media wing, and Turkey's Maya Productions Ltd. The Sultan of My Heart is a combination of a spy thriller and melodrama, set in Turkey in the 1920s and centered on Russian diplomats and their families as well as the Ottoman dynasty.

Asian World Film Festival Opens with Turkish Movie, “Ayla: The Daughter of War”

A cultural counter force to Washington isolationism, he has lined up a wide array of screenings, panels and tributes for the third annual Asian World Film Festival. The eight-day event kicks off Oct. 25 in Culver City and concludes Nov. 2, sponsored in part by Variety. This year’s installment is the broadest yet in scope. Movies range from “Dearest Sister,” the first film from Laos submitted for a foreign-language Oscar, and “Little Gandhi,” Syria’s first entry in that category, to pioneering Hollywood drama “Joy Luck Club,” part of a beefed-up Asian-American focus.

Jimmy Cuneyt Gurkan - Los Angeles, CA – A record 92 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 90th Academy Awards®. Haiti, Honduras, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mozambique, Senegal and Syria are first-time entrants. Turkey has selected Can Ulkay's debut feature Ayla: The Daughter of War as its candidate in the race for best foreign-language film in the Oscars. Turkey has submitted films for the foreign-language Academy Award regularly since 1989, with Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Three Monkeys making the shortlist of nine in 2008. No Turkish film has yet won an Oscar.

Turkish Cinema Goes to Hollywood

The Hollywood Turkish Film Festival will be held on October 20, 21 and 22 at the world famous Paramount Studios for the first time in Turkish cinema history. The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Tourism General Directorate of Cinema in a bid to reunite Turkish cinema with the global market. The festival is organized by journalist Barbaros Tapan, the Doğan Media Group’s Los Angeles representative and a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on behalf of Turkey, together with the Hollywood-based Turkish director Tekin Girgin.

Daphne Oz Shares New Photos of Her 3-Week-Old Baby Son

Image Daphne Oz has offered more glimpses of her and husband John Jovanovic's new baby son, Jovan Jovanovic Jr. The 29-year-old The Chew co-host recently posted on her Instagram page two new pics of the child, whose face is not shown. She is seen carrying the boy in a baby carrier in one, while another shows him being fed. Daphne posted the first pic of her son when he was five days old and his face was also hidden then.

Turkish Drama 'Mustang' Bought by Cohen Media

Image Cohen Media Group has acquired all North American distribution rights to Turkish drama “Mustang” following its screening in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes. The film,  the feature directorial debut of Turkish-French filmmaker Deniz Gamze Ergüven, centers on five  young sisters dealing with sexual repression. CMG plans to release the film theatrically in early 2016.

Turkish Playwright Hasan Erkek Selected for 'First Stories Festival'

Phoenix Theatre Ensemble announces that Hasan ERKEK's award-winning play Threshold will be presented as part of the company's "First Stories Festival" on Tuesday, May 20 at 8:00 pm as a staged reading. The performance will be preceded by a brief reception with professor ERKEK, who is attending from Andolou University in Turkey,

The Fourth Annual Turkish-American Friendship Day was held in Atlanta, capital of Georgia state of the US on February 6-7. The event was organized by Atlanta-based ‘Istanbul Center’ and attended by Georgia governor, senators and deputies as well as Turkish officials.
