itelligence AG Acquires Turkish SAP Consulting Company Elsys

Image ISTANBUL and BIELEFELD, Germany, July 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- itelligence AG, the world's leading SAP partner for the mid-market, is announcing its majority investment in Turkish SAP consulting company Elsys, which is based in Istanbul. itelligence AG is acquiring 60% in this SAP Gold Partner. This investment is part of itelligence's systematic growth strategy focusing on further international expansion and its growing service portfolio.

Elsys was founded in 2000 and employs around 180 staff. In 2011, it generated sales of around MEUR 11.5. Thanks to its own industry solutions based on SAP Business All in One and its in-depth expertise, especially in the automotive, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), retail, textile, and pharmaceutical industries, Elsys has proven itself as the leading SAP consulting company in Turkey. Elsys's offering comprises the full lifecycle of an SAP solution with license sales, consulting, maintenance and application management services.

Azerbaijan's SOCAR Sees $17B Turkey Investments

BAKU, Azerbaijan -- Azerbaijan's state oil and gas company says it plans to invest up to $17 billion in energy projects in neighboring Turkey over the coming eight years. SOCAR vice president Suleyman Gasimov said Thursday that investments will include $5.5 billion on a new refinery and $800 million on a power station.
Another major, still-unconfirmed goal mentioned by Gasimov is the construction of the proposed Trans-Anatolian natural gas pipeline, which Azerbaijan hopes could be used to carry gas from its Shah Deniz offshore field to Europe. Under current plans, Azerbaijan would take a lead in the project, known as TANAP, and provide several billion dollars for its completion.

US, Turkey to Build 600 Blackhawks

Image Turkey and the U.S. are seeking to sell some 500 “made in Turkey” Blackhawk helicopters to third countries, according to Francis J. Ricciardone, the U.S. ambassador to Ankara. “We will see over 600 Blackhawk helicopters, very high technology helicopters, produced here in Turkey. The great majority of these helicopters will go to third markets, third countries,” said Ricciardone during a Turkish-American business council lunch in Istanbul on May 4.

Groupon Acquires Silicon Valley Startup Campfire Labs

After a successful recent IPO launch, deal-of-the-day website Groupon is now in a talent-buying mood.  According to technology site TechCrunch, Groupon recently purchased a Silicon Valley startup Campfire Labs for an undisclosed amount. Campfire Labs was founded by Sakina Arsiwala, an ex-Google executive and former head of International at YouTube, and social search technology expert Naveen Koorakula. Prior to starting Campfire Labs, Koorakula worked at search companies like Inktomi, Yahoo and Picch.

Senkut's firm was an early investor in Rovio, and it's clear the firm is proud of its investment from the number of fluffy Angry Birds scattered throughout. "Everybody says that they are different. ZipCar Leads $13.7M round in P2P Car Service Wheelz

Image There's a race going on to be the best peer-to-peer car sharing service, with almost half a dozen getting fueled up with financing over the last six months. On Wednesday, yet another one got some fuel in the tank to take off, this time across college universities. Palo Alto, Calif.-based Wheelz, a relatively new peer-to-peer car-sharing service dedicated to college campuses, announced Wednesday that it's received $13.7 million in a Series A round of funding, led by ZipCar, and participation from Fontinalis Partners, a transportation technology strategic investment firm based in Detroit. The new amount brings Wheelz total amount of funding to $15 million, including a $2 million seed round from angel investors, including Chamath Palihapitiya, who recently started his own fund called The Social+Capital Partnership, as well as Aydin Senkut (of Felicis Ventures) and Red Swan Ventures, run by Andy Dunn, the founder of Bonobos.

Apple Acquires Aussie Start-up Chomp for $US50 Million

Image By Michelle Hammond - Apple has acquired Australian start-up Chomp for around $US50 million but is remaining tight-lipped over what it plans to do with the Chomp app, which is used to search the App Store. Chomp’s software allows people to search through downloadable applications available for Apple’s iPad and iPhone, as well as gadgets running Google’s Android operating system. Users can enter queries such as “tip calculator” or “kids’ games” to get different options of apps that fit those descriptions. Founded by Ben Keighran and Cathy Edwards, Chomp’s investors include BlueRun Ventures, SV Angel founder Ron Conway, Aydin Senkut, David Lee and Brian Pokorny.

Sierra Nevada Corporation Awarded Contract for U.S. Army Mobile Tower System
