New York Rotary Makes $100G Donation to Project Hospitality Staten Island Hurricane Relief Fund
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- There is more money in the pot for Staten Islanders impacted by Sandy with a donation of $100,000 by the New York Rotary to the Project Hospitality Staten Island Hurricane Relief Fund. "I know they will do an excellent job in stretching the money for everyone who needs it," said Rotarian Jim Thompson, a Silver Lake resident who turned over the donation during a Rotary lunch at the Harvard Club in Manhattan. The Hurricane Relief Fund now stands at $600,000 "This has been a difficult time for some Staten Island families," said Relief Fund committee member Fred Cerullo, the director of the Grand Central Partnership and former city councilman and city Finance Commissioner.
"We will ensure this money is used to help people rebuild their lives."
The Relief Fund is a partnership between Project Hospitality, the Staten Island Advance, the St. George Theatre and the Office of the Borough President to raise money for families whose homes or apartments were destroyed by Sandy.
Cerullo said the committee will hold its first meeting on Tuesday to create an application process for the distribution of the funds.
