LATFF 2013: Feature Films Announced

Image Scheduled to run 28 February – 3 March 2012 in Los Angeles, Second Los Angeles Turkish Film Festival will screen four prominent feature films. The Festival will open with the screening of Yilmaz Erdogan’s “The Dream of A Butterfly/The Butterfly’s Dream”. The following feature presentations are Emin Alper’s award-winning film “Tepenin Ardi” (Beyond The Hills) and Ali Aydin’s “Kuf” (Mold), which will get its U.S premiere. The Festival will wrap with Zeki Demirkubuz’s “Yeralti” (Inside), which will meet the audience for the first time through its U.S premiere.

The Festival will once more host the reputable names of Turkish cinema in Los Angeles: Yilmaz Erdogan, Belcim Bilgin ve Ahmet Mumtaz Taylan from “The Dream of A Butterfly/The Butterfly’s Dream”; Zeki Demirkubuz from “Yeralti” (Inside); Ali Aydin from “Kuf” and Emin Alper from “Tepenin Ardi” (Beyond The Hills) will meet the audience after the screenings.

The Festival has announced its opening film: “The Butterfly’s Dream”, the product of Yılmaz Erdoğan’s seven-year work. The film will also get its U.S premiere at the opening of the four-day festival. Along with Yılmaz Erdoğan himself, the film’s crew include these names: Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, Belçim Bilgin, Mert Fırat, Farah Abdullah Zeynep and Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan.

Taking place in Zonguldak of 1941, the film reflects the demanding atmosphere of the World War II, and the time is the time of taking responsibilities. At the center of all this tumult is two young, poets in the prime of their twenties: Muzaffer Tayyip Uslu and Rüştü Onur. Struggling with tuberculosis, the young poets cherish only one dream: to publish their poems in Varlık Journal (still a prestigious literary journal). Meanwhile, upon seeing Susan, the daughter of the notable person of the city Mr. Zihni, the young poets make a bet. Each will write a poem and read it to Susan. The one whose poem is less liked will fade from the scene. Upon their meeting arises a friendship between three.

Screened twice throughout the festival, the film will first meet with the cinema lovers at 19:00 on 28 February at Egypt Theater. Following the screening will there be a Q&A’s with the film crew. The second screening will be at 13:30 on 1 March.
