Magic Working on Turkoglu Buyout

Image The Magic are working on a buyout agreement with Hedo Turkoglu, plan on giving second-round pick Romero Osby a chance to make the team and likely will invite as many as four more players to their training camp, according to a source close to the club. As expected, Turkoglu and the team have been trying to arrange a buyout with the 13-year veteran small forward. He does not figure into the team's rebuilding plans at age 34. Only half of his $12 million salary for next season — the last year of his contract — is guaranteed.

If the Magic and Turkoglu can reach an arrangement, Turk will be waived. He then can become a free agent, eligible to negotiate with any other NBA team or play overseas.

There are reports that Turkoglu has an offer with a team in his native Turkey if he decides not to stay in the NBA or is unable to sign a deal.

Can Pelister of TrendBasket.com, citing unnamed sources, reports that Istanbul-based Fenerbahce Ulker of the EuroLeague has offered Turkoglu $3.4 million for next season.

Turkoglu, in his second stint with the Magic, posted career lows in most categories after an injury-plagued 11-game season in which he was suspended 20 games for using anabolic steroids.

The Magic would like to bring Osby into camp and offer him a shot at making the roster. They hope to have a decision next week from him.

Osby, a combo forward out of Oklahoma, showed promise while playing in games during the Orlando Summer League.

With Nik Vucevic as the only legitimate center, the Magic plan to invite two big men to camp, along with a guard and a wing.

The Magic open camp Oct. 1 at their practice facility at Amway Center.
