TAV Enters the US Market through Houston Airport

Image TAV Airports Holding's joint venture, ATU Duty Free, has been awarded the tender to operate the duty free shops in United States of America, Texas at Houston George Bush International Airport. The operating period of the duty free area is 10 years. The project covers the operation right of 700 square meters of duty free area in the airport which in total, served more than 41 million passengers in 2014.

ATU, the largest duty free operator of Turkey, has won the tender of duty free operations management at Houston George Bush Airport in Texas, USA, for 10 years. Houston City Council approved and authorized a retail concession agreement between the City of Houston and ATU Americas, LLC for specialty retail and duty free operations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Highlighting the importance of being preferred for the duty free operations of an airport in the USA, TAV Airports President & CEO Sani Şener stated, "We won the tender for the duty free operations of Houston George Bush Airport for 10 years as a Turkish brand after the fierce competition in the US. The success we achieved is another indicator of our significant industrial growth. The terminals will soon be expanded at Houston George Bush Airport, which is the 11th largest airport in the USA in terms of passenger number. I would like to congratulate all of our employees who contributed to this success."

ATU General Manager Ersan Ercan expresses, "We are glad to provide service in Houston which is an important city of the US in terms of economy and tourism. We are planning to expand our operations here and use the advantage of being a solution partner at duty free operations of other airports in the US in the most effective way."

ATU won the tender together with its 25 per cent local partner Air Ventures LLC. Submitting the proposals in November 2014, ATU has been awarded the tender by leaving behind strong brands such as Duty Free Americas, Metalsmiths Sterling, Dufry, Travel Retail Group and Prestige Duty Free. The tender result was announced after technical and financial competencies of the companies were assessed. Houston City Council also approved the tender result.

Launching flights to more than 170 destinations, Houston George Bush Airport is amongst the 5 airports of USA that can reach to the highest number of destinations. According to the figures of the US Aviation Authority, Houston George Bush Airport provided service to more than 41 million passengers in 2014 and became the country's 11th largest airport.
