No Turkish Presence at the NY Times Travel Fair This Year

Image By Ali Cinar- New York - The New York Times Travel Show was held from January 27th through 29th. There were 500 exhibitors from 150 countries of which as many of 40% were new exhibitors.  There was a big disappointment that Turkish Exhibitors weren't present this year at the Travel Show. Many neighbor countries such as Greece and Armenia have a exhibit in order to promote their tourism and culture.

Turkey’s tourism revenue dropped to $22.1 billion in 2016, a 29.7 % decrease compared to 2015, as the number of foreign arrivals to the country witnessed a dramatic plunge, official data showed Jan. 31.The TÜİK data also revealed that the number of Turkish citizens traveling abroad last year fell to 7.9 million people, a 9.8 percent decrease compared to 2015.

Terror attacks and Syrian crisis have been the two key factors impacted Turkish Tourism negatively. NY Times Travel show provides educational seminars and live entertainment for families, individuals, couples and seniors.  he Conference featured more than 270 speakers including; Ben Baer, managing editor, Forbes Brand Production, Rainer Jenss, president & founder, Family Travel Association. Other speakers included ; Eduardo Santander, executive director, European Travel Commission, Alison Metcalfe, executive vice president United States and Canada, Tourism Ireland and chair of the European Travel Commission’s Operations Group in USA and, Bruce Poon Tip, founder, G Adventures.
