New Walmart Concept Store Brings Chobani Cafe Out of New York

Image A new Walmart concept store is coming to South Texas, and with it—a new partnership with yogurt-maker Chobani. The “smart” store, set to open at the end of February in Houston, Texas suburb of Tomball, will reportedly feature innovative new approaches to technology, services, products, and layout. According to local news source The Houston Chronicle, these innovations will include Walmart’s Mobile Scan & Go program, through which shoppers can streamline the checkout process using an app to checkout.
The store will also house a 2,000-square-foot Chobani Café—the first outside of New York City. The new café is a first for both companies. Chobani first unveiled its café concept with its SoHo café 2012. Since then, the restaurant has undergone a significant expansion, with a second Tribeca location inside a Target store following in 2016.

The Chobani Café’s menu will include a variety of Mediterranean-inspired sweet and savory creations. Offerings at the company’s current locations include simit, soups, salads, breakfast bowls, and yogurt smoothies—in addition to yogurts with a variety of toppings including pistachios, dark chocolate, clover honey, fresh fruit, and granola.

The new Walmart and Chobani Café will host a grand opening on February 28, 2017 at 10 a.m.

Will the two companies expand this partnership to include stores nationwide? Deli Market News will keep you apprised of developments as they occur.
