In a poll voted in by over 18.8 million airline passengers from 100 different nationalities, Turkish Airlines (THY) was awarded the “Best Airline Europe” prize by Skytrax, the world’s largest airline review site, in recognition of the quality of its in-cabin service and the range of locations it flies to in the European aviation sector. THY also won the “World’s Best Premium Economy Class Airline Seat” and “Best Airline Southern Europe” awards. The runners-up in the best European airline category were Swiss International Air Lines taking second place in the category, ahead of Germany’s Lufthansa in third position.
In his remarks to the press, THY CEO Temel Kotil recalled that they said they would become the “the best” in Europe six years ago and now they have reached this goal. “We have shown that we could surpass European aviation companies, and we have paved the way for us to become the biggest airline company in Europe,” Kotil said. “The total number of locations we fly to has reached 190, and we still need 40 more locations to add to our current destinations if we want to become the biggest airline in Europe,” he stated.
Skytrax’s CEO Edward Plaisted praised THY in a statement on the company’s awards website. “Turkish Airlines continues to invest in quality product and service concepts and this has been key in their success at this year’s awards. We have witnessed a steady rise up the global rankings for Turkish, and this has seen them enter the top 10 (ninth) for the first time. To secure the award for Best Premium Economy Seat is further evidence that Turkish Airlines is providing passengers with a world class onboard experience.” Source: Zaman
