Image Several US-based Muslim NGOs sent a letter to Turkish PM Erdogan, expressing gratitude for his support to refugees across the world. Muslims living in the US sent a “thank-you letter” to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his support and help to refugees all around the world. The letter by “Muslim Americans and Friends of Turkey” was delivered to Namik Tan, Turkey’s ambassador in Washington.

Stating that Turkey was a country that accepted countless numbers of refugees for hundreds of years, Tan said Turkey continued to be a safe heaven for them as well as showing a great hospitality to its guests.

“We, as American Muslims, really care about the international contributions that Muslims make in matters such as providing shelter for refugees. We, thus, wanted to underline the key role that Turkey has played for a long time in history in becoming a role model for the other countries,” said Mahmood Kazmi, one of the leaders of Muslim community in the US.

Stating that Turkey welcomed many refugees from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Syria, Iraq, and Kosovo, Kazmi pointed out that Turkey also contributed to relief efforts made for refugees other countries including Bangladesh, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan and Somalia.

He reminded that Erdogan was the first leader to visit Somalia in the last 20 years and stressed that Turkey showed a great example of leadership.

Kazmi said the letter was signed by Muslims from various nations living in US, who he said were big supporters and friends of Turkey.
