Turkey's Eastern Province Gets Own Air Carrier
While many tourism authorities agree that the financial crisis, still prevailing especially in Europe, continues to badly affect Turkish tourism, an 11 percent increase in the number of tourists visiting the southern city of Antalya in 2010 is a positive sign for sector representatives. Banking on this surge, an entrepreneur from Turkey's eastern province of Van has founded a new airline, which will go by the name "Van Way Airlines." The company, set up by Van-based businessman Aslan Bayram, is set to make its maiden flight on Jan. 15. It will offer flights to three other Turkish provinces, Gaziantep, Trabzon and Ankara, Bayram said at a press meeting Tuesday.
