SNC's Dream Chaser Mission Delayed

Citing delays related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has pushed back the time frame for the first mission using its Dream Chaser spaceplane. Formerly scheduled for late 2021, the company now expects the Dream Chaser to make its initial flight to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2022. The cargo mission will be the first of a minimum of six conducted under a Commercial Resupply Services 2 (CRS-2) contract with NASA.

YouTube Bows to Pressure to Set Up Turkey Office

YouTube has bowed to pressure from Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to set up an office in the country after the government threatened the video-streaming service with a de facto ban. The Google-owned streaming site said it had spent months “thoroughly analysing” a new social media law passed earlier this year at the behest of Mr Erdogan, which requires social media providers to adhere to stringent new conditions or face a reduction of their internet bandwidth of as much as 90 per cent. 

Pandemic Delays Maiden Dream Chaser Flight Aboard Vulcan

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has announced that the maiden flight of the company’s Dream Chaser spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) has been pushed to 2022. The Dream Chaser spacecraft was designed to carry crew and cargo to the ISS. In January 2016, NASA awarded SNC with a set of six space station resupply missions. The company did not, however, receive funding to proceed with the development of a crewed version of the spacecraft. In August 2019, SNC announced that it had selected the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Vulcan to carry all six initial Dream Chaser flights. The announcement added an expected maiden launch date of 2021.

6 Charged in 'Birth Tourism' Scheme that Cost U.S. Taxpayers Millions

Six people were charged in an elaborate “birth tourism” scheme that helped Turkish women secure U.S. citizenship for their children and cost American taxpayers upward of $2 million, federal prosecutors said Wednesday. The alleged ringleaders, Sarah Kaplan and Ibrahim Aksakal, both residents of Long Island, New York, brazenly advertised their services on Turkish-language Facebook pages and websites with titles like “My baby should be born in America,” prosecutors said.
