Jeff Helps Bilkent’s Cyberpark Firms to Open U.S. Market

Jeff Engell, lead consultant of the Bilkent Cyberpark Accelerator Program (CAP), Turkey's first fully international accelerator, which was recognized globally by the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) and a recipient of the Inspiring Solutions Award. Engell became involved with Bilkent’s CAP, which has as one of its goals to connect its companies to strategic partners and customers in the U.S.Bilkent Cyberpark is Turkey’s first private Science and Technology Park (STP) established in 2002 by Bilkent University. The cyberpark is large, with about 240 high-tech companies, eight research centers and more than 3,300 R&D personnel. Innosphere, Colorado based company which supports highly motivated entrepreneurs working on innovations, reached out to Bilkent Cyberpark in Ankara, Turkey in a partnership that could potentially bring Turkish startups – and economic activity -- into Colorado. The idea was developed by Jeff Engell, a former Fort Collins resident who moved to Turkey and saw an opportunity to create a Colorado-Turkey connection. Engell answered TURKOFAMERICA’s questions.

NASA Awards $45.5 Million for Private Moon Lander Work on Project Artemis

NASA is serious about making its next moonshot a joint public-private project. The space agency is granting a total of $45.5 million to 11 U.S. companies, including Elon Musk's SpaceX and Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin, to help them develop spacecraft that can get astronauts to the lunar surface. NASA aims to achieve this goal by 2024, as part of its ambitious Artemis program. The money will be awarded via NASA's Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships (NextSTEP) program. Each company must contribute at least 20% of its total project costs, agency officials said.

Dream Chaser Gets NASA Nod For Full Production

By Leslie Holland - The cargo spacecraft Dream Chaser, a product of Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is slated for its first space outing by end 2020 and production is expected to begin in full force after obtaining the go ahead nod from NASA. A milestone completion in its contract for Commercial Resupply Services (CRS)2 termed as Integrated Review 4 helped it get the approval from NASA for working further on its Dream Chaser project. Besides SNC, two other companies which were awarded CRS-2 contracts in 2016 by NASA include the Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems and SpaceX. The contract entitled a minimum of six missions to the International Space Station to each of them.

US Approves King Air 350 ISR Aircraft for Kuwait

United States has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale of King Air 350ER Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft to Kuwait for an estimated cost of $259 million. The acquisition of four Beechcraft King Air 350ER ISR aircraft will enable Kuwait to establish its first dedicated airborne ISR fleet. The medium-to low-altitude, twin-engine turboprop aircraft have primary mission to provide ISR support directly to ground forces.  Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) will modify and integrate the ISR mission systems and sensors known as the Mission Enhancement Kit.

Sierra Nevada's Minishuttle Is Go for Space Station Supply Deliveries in 2020

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The International Space Station will have a new spacecraft visitor starting in 2020 now that Sierra Nevada has received NASA approval to send its Dream Chaser cargo carrier to the orbiting laboratory. The Nevada-based commercial space company said Wednesday that it has the go-ahead from NASA to finalize the spacecraft, which looks like a mini space shuttle, for cargo resupply missions beginning in late 2020. “SNC has been successfully completing critical design milestones as approved by NASA, and having a timetable for the first launch is another important step achieved for us,” Sierra Nevada Corp. CEO Fatih Ozmen said. “The team has worked so hard to get to this point and we can’t wait to fulfill this mission for NASA.”
