Turkey's Internet Tiger Shows Signs of Stirring

By Ben Rooney - (WSJ) - Turkey has that most scarce, yet highly sought-after, attribute among European economies: growth. With this rising tide, is now the time for investors to be contemplating Turkey’s growing Internet economy? Certainly the statistics look good. According to the European Union, Turkey’s real gross-domestic-product growth for 2010 was 9%, compared to just 2% for the 27 EU members. It is forecasting that growth for 2011 will be 7.5% against 1.9% for the EU.

Turkey's Start-Up Scene Comes of Age

ANTALYA — With Turkey displaying that rare commodity among European economies — growth — the country has attracted a great deal of attention from venture capitalists looking for investments. Burak Buyukdemir, founder of the Startup Turkey conference, says the last six months have seen a big change in Turkey’s start-up scene, fueled by Amazon’s deal last December to acquire a minority stake in online flower retailer, Ciceksepeti. This follows eBay’s purchase of GittiGidiyor, one of the country’s leading marketplaces.

Turkey to Buy Two Lockheed F-35 Jets, 15 Textron Helicopters

Turkey will purchase two Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) F-35 fighter jets and and 15 helicopters from Textron Inc. (TXT) for the police department, the Defense Industries Undersecretary said today in a statement. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan convened a meeting with the Defense Industries Undersecretary Murad Bayar, Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz and the military’s Chief of General Staff Necdet Ozel today in Ankara, where the orders were approved.

Runes of Magic to Receive Turkish and Latin American Localization from Aeria Games

Aeria Games seems to be making a niche for itself localizing games into neglected regions. Earlier this year, it was announced that the company would take on the localization for Perfect World International for Latin America. Now it's doing the same thing for another game, taking the responsibility of localizing Runes of Magic for both the Latin American market and the Turkish market. That means all of the current live features of Runes of Magic in your native language, assuming your native language is Spanish, Portuguese, or Turkish.
