Coca-Cola's Kent Named Winner of "Responsible CEO of the Year" Award

Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine named Muhtar Kent the "Responsible CEO of the Year" in the Large Market category ($2 billion-plus revenues public company). This award recognizes how individual CEOs have aligned their company's interests with that of thousands of stakeholders to do well by doing good. Nominations were made by the editorial team at CR Magazine, which looked at the following three criteria:

ImageHe approaches a woman seated in his salon chair with his arms outstretched as if about to conduct a symphony. “First, we are going to grow the hair,” says Nuri Yurt, the owner of Toka Salon. He waves his hands over her dampened salt-and-pepper locks. His fingers flick around the perimeter of her head, tousling here and fluffing there until he’s ready to deliver his verdict. “But we are not there yet.”

But Yurt isn’t the only talented Turk in town. Especially in Georgetown, where there are so many Turkish salon owners and hairdressers, Wisconsin Avenue feels more like the Bosporus.

“This is our territory,” Yurt says. Half of the stylists he employs are Turkish. He has his own Turkish apprentice, a gorgeous young woman named Sezgi Acur who is currently mastering the blow-dry.

Western Union is seeking to enter into the intra-money transfer business in India, in addition to growing its network beyond 60,000 locations across the nation. Growing its electronic channel is one of its top priorities, Hikmet Ersek,  the chief executive officer of Western Union, told Sumit Sharma in an interview. Edited excerpts:

Petkim Plans to Create A Regional Force in Petrochemicals

ImageThe Turkish petrochemicals market is one of the fastest-growing in the world, with a twofold GDP multiplier over the last decade. Petkim Petrokimya Holding A.Ş., the leading petrochemical company in Turkey, has been exporting different petrochemical products to the US market for 20 years. Its main export product is C4, used in butadiene extraction for rubber production. Butadiene is the basic raw material of the automotive and tire industry. Petkim’s market share for C4  is around 30-40% of the total C4 imports of the USA. Hayati Öztürk, Petkim’s General Manager, talked to TURKOFAMERICA.

In 1996, J. Darius Bikoff was checking into the purity of bottled water and didn't like that some had contaminants. He decided to create his own distilled water with added electrolytes. The resulting Smartwater, in a sleek bottle designed by Doug Lloyd, became a hit in natural and specialty food stores when it was released in 1998.

Vakifbank AG Supports Turkish Enterpreneurs

Vienna- Two Turkish banks in Austria primarily provide services to 220,000 Turkish people: the Vakıfbank International AG and Denizbank AG, which in 2006 was sold for 2.4 billion dollars to Dexia, the French-Belgium joint banking group. Both banks have their main offices in the same area in District 10 Vienna.
