National Campaign Calls on Yogurt Brand to Live Up to Ads and Stop Using Milk From Cows Fed GMOs

Image Chobani is the United States' top Greek yogurt brand and it prides itself on adding no GMO ingredients to its yogurt.  However, it is likely that the company is relying on milk from cows eating a diet full of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). GMO Inside, a national, non-GMO coalition led by Green America, is calling on Chobani to cease marketing its products as "real" and "natural" until the company switches to verified non-GMO milk sources.

Court Denies Beechcraft Challenge Of Lost Contract

ImageWICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Kansas airplane maker Beechcraft has lost a legal battle to halt work on a high stakes Air Force contract awarded to rival Sierra Nevada Corporation. The U.S. Court of Federal Claims on Friday denied Beechcraft's request for a temporary injunction. The contract for 20 planes for use in Afghanistan is worth more than $427 million. It could be worth as much as $1 billion, depending on future orders.

Hamdi Ulukaya sits in a restaurant in upstate New York, waggling a rolled-up slice of pizza, making bombastic pronouncements about yogurt. As the founder and chief executive of Chobani, the brand of Greek yogurt that has stormed the stainless steel refrigerators of coconut water drinkers and ancient grain eaters, he has some standing in the matter, although he?s actually Turkish.

New York Police Commemorate Turkish Colleagues Fallen in Istanbul Attack

Image Police officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) joined Turkish and American NGO's in a commemoration event held in Times Square for victims of the deadly PKK bombings in Istanbul on Dec. 10, which killed 44 people, including 36 police officers. NYPD Muslim Officers Society Chairman Adeel Rana said in a speech that NYPD officers had joined the event to support Turkish colleagues and to give a message of solidarity, adding that all the world should be united in the fight against terrorism.

Summer Fancy Food Show Largest Ever

Image NEW YORK (June 30, 2016) -- The 2016 Summer Fancy Food Show, which ended Tuesday, was the largest in exhibit space since it was established in 1954. More than 2,670 exhibitors filled the halls of Javits Center in New York with the latest in specialty food and beverages from across the U.S. and 55 countries. Owned and produced by the Specialty Food Association, the show ran June 26 – 28. It is the largest such marketplace in North America. More than 47,000 specialty food professionals were in the exhibit halls, which spanned the equivalent of six football fields. "The show is the place to be to discover the latest in specialty food and what's next for stores and restaurants," says Laura Santella-Saccone, the Association's chief marketing officer. "Record sales for specialty food have contributed to the strength of our show."

UNC-Chapel Hill Alumna Named Ertegun Scholar

(Chapel Hill, N.C.— June 22, 2016) – Jordan Maly-Preuss, a 2013 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been selected for the prestigious Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Program, which funds graduate study in the humanities at England’s University of Oxford. This year, 18 scholarships were granted for one-year and two-year full-time master’s degrees and for three-year doctoral degrees. Ertegun Scholars pursue research in diverse fields, from literature and archaeology to art history and medieval and modern languages. They leave Oxford prepared to be positive thought leaders and active contributors in their chosen fields and the global community.

Bozkir: EU Not In Position to Refuse Turkey's Membership Bid

Image Minister of EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Volkan Bozkır has claimed that the EU is in need of Turkey with increasing urgency, saying, "The EU does not have the luxury of refusing Turkey's membership." At a reception on Thursday organized by Turkish citizens and academics who study in Washington and at the Turkish embassy there, Bozkır spoke about Turkey's EU bid in a speech and informed participants about laws that have been enacted during the membership process.
