Image PATERSON, NJ – After a one-year absence, the Turkish-American parade returns to Paterson this weekend. The event will begin at noon on Sunday at the corner of Madison Avenue and Main Street. It will then proceed down Main Street into Clifton, where a festival will be held at Clifton Park.

Owned by Turkish Couple, First Commercial Space Flight Project by NASA

Image Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), owned by Turkish couple Fatih and Eren Özmen, was among four companies chosen for a commercial space flight project by NASA. SNC will be competing against Boeing, Blue Origin, and SpaceX to produce a space shuttle. Last year, the company received $100 million for the project, and according to news portal, www.turkavenue.com, the couple behind SNC have named their shuttle “Dream Chaser.”

Turkish Angel Investor Aydin Senkut Invests $1.26M to Alt12 Apps

Image San Francisco, CA – Alt12 Apps, one of the leading publishers of social health apps, announced today the launch of Kidfolio, a social network and digital scrapbook for parents. In addition to Kidfolio, Alt12 Apps closed its seed round of funding of $1.26M. The round was led by Aydin Senkut’s Felicis Ventures, with participation from InterWest Partners and other individual angels, including HealthTap founder Ron Gutman. Daron Acemoglu Wins Nemmers Prize

MIT economist granted award for ‘fundamental contributions’ on economics, politics and growth. MIT economist Daron Acemoglu has been named as the recipient of the 2012 Erwin Plein Nemmers Prize in Economics, a major prize in the field. The announcement was made this week by Northwestern University, which confers Nemmers prizes in economics, mathematics and musical composition. The awards are given “in recognition of major contributions to new knowledge or the development of significant new modes of analysis,” according to Northwestern; the economics prize in granted biennually.
