Dow Chemical Co. (DOW), the largest U.S. chemicals manufacturer, and Aksa Akrilik Kimya Sanayii (AKSA) AS, a Turkish maker of synthetic acrylic fibers, are in talks to form a joint venture to make carbon fiber and derivatives, the companies said.

Dow and Istanbul-based Aksa signed an accord to “examine opportunities to develop and market a broad range of products and technical service offerings in the carbon fiber-based composites industry,” the companies said today in a statement.

The manufacturers will work on products aimed at “increasing the energy capture of wind turbines, improving the fuel economy of automobiles, and extending the life of roads and buildings,” Andrew Liveris, chairman and chief executive officer of Midland, Michigan-based Dow, said in the statement.

Mehmet Oz becomes the eighth Turk to grace the cover of one of the world's most prestigious magazines, Time. The Turkish health guru known as Dr. Oz, who gained fame as the host for on a show on the American TV channel Fox, has become the eighth Turk to grace the cover of one of the world's most prestigious magazines, Time.

Time's cover this week features Dr. Oz examining himself as a patient for an article he wrote about lessons he learned from his own cancer scare.

In the article, Oz tells about his fear of his colon cancer. Built by the 50th day of age during a colon cancer check-up suspicion arose, and then spent by the operation of self, said:

"I am a famous doctor. I give advice to millions of people. I am proud of being a good doctor and a good family man, but in fact I had been a bad patient,” he said.

Following his visit to the United States to develop economic relations between Turkey and the U.S., the chairman of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, or TOBB, said he received extremely positive signals from his meetings despite the current picture of weak trade ties.

The new “model partnership,” a term used by first U.S. President Barack Obama to define relations between the two countries, has spread to all areas in the U.S., Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, said. “The U.S. Department of State and the Department of Defense presented us with practical advice for developing economic relations. I have been visiting the U.S. for 10 years, but there has never been such an approach. For this reason, I am returning home with high hopes.”
