Standard Bank Sells 53% of Turkish Unit to Focus on Africa

Image By Renee Bonorchis - Standard Bank Group Ltd. (SBK) sold 53 percent of its Turkish broker and investment bank as Africa’s largest lender focuses on markets closer to home. That cut its stake in Standard Unlu to 25 percent, the Johannesburg-based bank said today in a statement translated from Turkish. The shares were bought by Turkish businessman Mahmut Unlu, who raised his shareholding to 75 percent. The statement didn’t say how much he paid.

Saudi Royal to Invest $300m in Turkish Hotels

Image A member of Saudi Arabia’s ruling family plans to invest $300m into a Turkish hotel chain, a newspaper report has claimed Bander bin Fahd al-Fehaid, who is also chairman of the Arab Tourism Organisation (ATO), will invest the cash into the ‘My Tuana’ chain, eventually taking the number of its hotel properties in Turkey to 20, according to Hurriyet Daily News. Turkish businessman Mehmet Yücel, who is reportedly al-Fehaid’s partner in the scheme, told the paper that a deal for four hotels has been agreed, while talks for another seven properties were progressing.

Chobani Expands in Australia

Image American yoghurt brand Chobani is launching a marketing offensive in Australia next week, with TV, outdoor and social media in the mix. This week marks the expansion of the yoghurt brand into Victoria, following its launch in New South Wales in November last year.
