Turkey Unveils 3rd Istanbul Bridge Linking Europe with Asia
ISTANBUL – Turkey opened one of the world's largest bridges Friday designed to allow traffic to cross the Bosphorus Strait between Europe and Asia and ease congestion in Istanbul. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan oversaw a ceremony inaugurating the $3 billion Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which is touted by its Turko-Italian developers as the world's broadest suspension bridge at 58.4 meters (192 feet) wide. The toll bridge, spanning 1,408 meters (4,620 feet) over the Bosphorus, features 10 lanes, including two rail lines. At 322 meters (1,056 feet), officials say the bridge's 322-meter (1,056-foot) towers are also the tallest in the world. It becomes Istanbul's third bridge spanning the strategic strait. WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan next week for the first time since the attempted coup in Turkey in July, the White House said Monday. Newly released Hillary Clinton emails show that two Turkish businessmen who are top lieutenants of a Turkish cleric living in the U.S. received help from the then secretary of state's aide Huma Abedin in 2009, The Daily Caller reports. Other emails released show that the two businessmen, Gokhan Ozkok and Recep Ozkan, were on the guest list for a June 2012 Clinton Foundation dinner held at Clinton's home. Everyone knows, but, unfortunately, very few individuals or organizations in the United States of America believe it. To this date, Turkey has submitted 4 files to the US State Department, requesting the deportation of the FETO leader. The State Department shares the documents with the Justice Department and that investigations are continuing. As the time gets longer, Turks are becoming impatient. The U.S. mansion of Fetullah Gulen, who is held responsible for July 15 coup attempt, was purchased in 2005 by a Turkish businessman, according to the head of appointed trustee of Kaynak Holding. Kaynak Holding has been accused of harboring links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) led by Gulen, who has lived in a self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1999. Geraldo Vouches for US General Accused of Plotting Failed Turkish Coup
The retired U.S. Army general and former NATO commander accused of masterminding the recent failed coup in Turkey has an alibi -- he was having a beer with Fox News Channel's Geraldo Rivera. Yeni Safak, a Turkish tabloid known as friendly to the increasingly authoritarian regime in Ankara, hit newsstands Monday with a front-page blaring in Turkish "This man led the coup," alongside a picture of U.S. Army Gen. J.F. Campbell. It was news to Campbell, who retired in May after a distinguished, 37-year career that saw him most recently serve in both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Campbell served as commander of the NATO International Security Assistance Force from August 2014 to earlier this year.
