Turkish-US Relations Require Gulen's Extradition: MP

Image Both justice and the U.S.-Turkish alliance require the extradition of Fethullah Gulen, said the co-chair of the Turkish-U.S. Interparliamentary Friendship Group on Friday. Ankara has said Gulen is the mastermind behind the defeated July 15 coup that martyred 240 people and injured around 2,200 others. "This alliance requires solidarity and responsibility. Extraditing the leader of this terror cult to Turkey will prove that the American commitment to this alliance is a bedrock: this is an assurance that Turkey’s society and political class at large needs to receive," Ali Sarikaya, an Istanbul deputy for the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, said in a guest op-ed for Middle East Monitor (MEMO), a press monitoring organization

Emails Show Clinton Ties to Supporters of Turkish Cleric Fethullah Gulen

Image Newly released Hillary Clinton emails show that two Turkish businessmen who are top lieutenants of a Turkish cleric living in the U.S. received help from the then secretary of state's aide Huma Abedin in 2009, The Daily Caller reports. Other emails released show that the two businessmen, Gokhan Ozkok and Recep Ozkan, were on the guest list for a June 2012 Clinton Foundation dinner held at Clinton's home. The series of emails from the two praise Clinton and emphasize that Turkish Americans believe in her friendship. They provide further evidence of the ties the two have fostered with Clinton over the years, at the same time they have worked for Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen, who lives in self-exile in Pennsylvania and whom the Turkish government has demanded that the U.S. extradite.

Biden: US Will Listen to 'Every Scrap of Evidence' in Gulen Extradition Request

Image The United States held firm Wednesday in rebuffing Turkey's demand that it immediately extradite Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen whom Ankara blames for last month's failed military coup, saying it has yet to receive any evidence linking him to the putsch. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said the White House is determined to listen to "every scrap of evidence" Turkey provides before deciding if it will extradite the Muslim cleric. Gulen lives in the eastern state of Pennsylvania, and Turkey is demanding his immediate extradition, accusing him of organizing last month's failed military coup -- a charge he denies.

Is FETO Worth Sacrificing Turkish-American Relations?

Image By Ali Cinar- Everyone in Turkey has known since the treacherous attempted coup of July 15, that the name behind the coup is the Fetullah Gulen Terrorist Organization (FETO). Everyone knows, but, unfortunately, very few individuals or organizations in the United States of America believe it. To this date, Turkey has submitted 4 files to the US State Department, requesting the deportation of the FETO leader. The State Department shares the documents with the Justice Department and that investigations are continuing. As the time gets longer, Turks are becoming impatient. Of course, as patience grows,unfortunately , anti-American sentiment is beginning to increase at an alarming rate.

Gulen's Mansion in US "Financed" by Turkish Firm

Image The U.S. mansion of Fetullah Gulen, who is held responsible for July 15 coup attempt, was purchased in 2005 by a Turkish businessman, according to the head of appointed trustee of Kaynak Holding. Kaynak Holding has been accused of harboring links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) led by Gulen, who has lived in a self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1999. Board Chairman of the company Imran Okumus told Anadolu Agency Wednesday that the company was FETO’s largest source of financing in Turkey.

ISTANBUL—A retired American general on Monday dismissed as “absolutely ridiculous” allegations made by a Turkish newspaper that he orchestrated the country’s botched July 15 military coup. John Campbell, a retired four-star general who oversaw the U.S.-led military coalition in Afghanistan until May, told The Wall Street Journal that the story “doesn’t even warrant a response.” “It’s absolutely ridiculous,” Mr. Campbell said of the front-page article in Yeni Safak, a pro-government Turkish newspaper.

Geraldo Vouches for US General Accused of Plotting Failed Turkish Coup

Image The retired U.S. Army general and former NATO commander accused of masterminding the recent failed coup in Turkey has an alibi -- he was having a beer with Fox News Channel's Geraldo Rivera. Yeni Safak, a Turkish tabloid known as friendly to the increasingly authoritarian regime in Ankara, hit newsstands Monday with a front-page blaring in Turkish "This man led the coup," alongside a picture of U.S. Army Gen. J.F. Campbell. It was news to Campbell, who retired in May after a distinguished, 37-year career that saw him most recently serve in both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Campbell served as commander of the NATO International Security Assistance Force from August 2014 to earlier this year.

Turkey Criticizes US Over Cleric Accused of Coup Plot

Image  A top Turkish official on Friday accused the United States of "standing up for savages" by not immediately handing over a U.S.-based Muslim cleric who the government claims orchestrated last week's failed coup. Speaking in Washington, President Barack Obama said there was a legal process for extradition and encouraged Turkey to present evidence. In a sign of increasing tension, Turkey said it was dispatching its justice and interior ministers to the United States next week to push for the extradition of the cleric, Fethullah Gulen. The two NATO countries are allies in the fight against the Islamic State group; American military jets have been flying missions against extremists in Iraq and Syria out of the Turkish air base at Incirlik.

Turkish Americans in Boston Condemn Attempted Coup

Image Supporters of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made their presence known Sunday on Boston Common, gathering in condemnation of the attempted July 15 coup by a faction of the Turkish military. More than 200 people marched around the park and near the State House, in a show of jubilant solidarity with citizens still protesting on the streets of Turkey, said Ömür Budak, the Turkish consul general in Boston. “The rallies against the coup are still taking place,” Budak said. “We want the message to be known by the New England public that we will never let a coup be successful.”

ATAA Introduces New President Kenan Caglar

Image ATAA has announced today that Mr. Kenan Caglar will assume the presidency of ATAA on July 12, 2016, succeeding President Mehmet Toy, Ph.D. who will have completed his two year-term, as specified by ATAA Bylaws, from July 11, 2014 to July 11, 2016. ATAA Board of Directors appointed Mid-Central Region Vice President Mr. Gokhan Ozalp as the the interim Vice President until the next elections are held. Starting on July 11th, Mr. Ozalp will assume Mr. Caglar's responsibilities in ATAA's Executive Committee.
