ASA West Organizes The Most Successful Gala Celebration of Nowruz In California

Image LOS ANGELES, March 21, 2015 - Azerbaijani Society of America (ASA) Western Region organized the first ever major celebration of Nowruz - Vernal Equinox Spring Holiday - in Southern California. The event was organized at the Orange County Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa, California. Among the nearly 250 mostly Azerbaijani-American guests were also the House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, California Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA), Mayor of Irvine, CA - Steven Choi, Mayor of Fountain Valley, CA - Steve Nagel, all of whom addressed the audience. Speaking to the community, Congressman Royce highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan and recalled his recent visit to the country.

American Turkish Society's 14th New York Turkish Film Festival

Image New York, NY- The American Turkish Society will hold its 14th New York Turkish Film Festival March 27- April 4, 2015 at the SVA Theatre, 333 West 23 Street, New York. This year’s Festival will feature eight films exploring a diverse range of subjects and themes. Highlights of the Festival are the New York premiere of “I’m Not Him” on Friday, March 27, the winner of Best Film at the Istanbul Film Festival with director, Tayfun Pirselimoglu, participating in a post-screening Q&A session.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra & Turkish Pianist-Composer Fazil Say to Perform at Carnegie Hall

Image NEW YORK, NY (March 19, 2015)—In the final concert of its annual series at Carnegie Hall this season, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will be joined by Turkish pianist-composer Fazıl Say for the New York premiere of his new Chamber Symphony, Op. 62, commissioned by Orpheus as part of its American Notes initiative. Mr. Say also performs Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major with Orpheus as soloist. Making his Orpheus debut this season, Mr. Say last performed in the US at the Met Museum in April 2012. Orpheus will also perform Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll and Haydn’s Symphony No. 80 in D minor, both signature works from its Deutsche Grammophon catalog.
