Two Turkish-Americans Plead Not Guilty in Embassy Brawl

(VOA) -- Two Turkish-American men involved in a brawl at the Turkish Embassy earlier this year pleaded not guilty to assault charges in a Washington, D.C., courtroom Thursday. Sinan Narin of Virginia and Eyup Yildirim of New Jersey faced charges of felony aggravated assault as well as making assault threats. Court documents from Thursday indicate the men both entered pleas of not guilty and asked for a jury trial.

Trump, Turkey's Erdogan Emphasize Push for Regional Stability in Call

President Trump and Turkish President Recep Erdoğan stressed their "common commitment" to regional stability in the Middle East during a phone call on Saturday, according to the White House. The brief readout of the call released by the White House said the U.S. and Turkey were working together to increase stability in the region, which is plagued by the crisis surrounding the Syrian civil war. Trump and Erdoğan previously discussed Syria on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in July.

Turkey Issues Travel Warning for Germany Before Vote

Turkey has told its citizens visiting or living in Germany to "be careful" and keep their composure against "racist and xenophobic slurs" in advance of the country's upcoming federal elections. "It is advised for our citizens in Germany or planning to visit this country to be even-tempered, keep themselves out of political discussions and absent themselves from rallies held by terrorist groups ahead of the elections," said the Turkish foreign ministry in a statement published on its official website on Saturday.
