Turkish Day Parade in New York
The annual Turkish Day Parade and Festival organized by the Federation of Turkish American Associations (TADF) was celebrated for the 35th time in New York on May 20 and May 21. Activities started with the raising of the Turkish flag at Wall Street and continued with activities in Brooklyn and the traditional parade next day. The first activity of this year’s festival took place at Bowling Green Park on Wall Street on May 20. Turkish Consul-General in New York Ertan Yalçın, Turkish U.N. Military Attaché Colonel Metin Adıyaman, New Jersey Turkish Hearth Association head Mehmet Yar, and Atatürk Culture and Education Foundation (AKDEV) head Gül Karyıldız participated in the event, as well as artists Hülya Polat and Selim Bölükbaşı, who flew to New York especially for the festival. - Published in Latest

Turkish Airlines announces its 15th destination in the Americas; Atlanta with the inaugural flight to the airline’s 9th US destination scheduled for 16th May. Beginning from 16th May Turkish Airlines has added a daily flight to Atlanta, joining Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Panama, Bogota, Toronto, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, Boston, Montreal, San Francisco and Miami as the carrier’s 15th destination in the Americas.
Businessman Cafer Mahiroğlu has applied to purchase the 88-year-old British Home Stores (BHS), one of the largest retail companies, which went into administration two weeks ago after BHS owner Dominic Chappell announced on April 24 that the retail chain failed to provide the required financing. BHS, which has occupied the British and European media for days, was transferred to a trustee when it became financially unmanageable in late April. Thousands of people will be made redundant if the company goes bankrupt, which has also raised questions in the British Parliament. With a crisis in the steel industry in recent weeks, the possibility has emerged that thousands of employees might lose their jobs.
Reno, Nev. — The Sparks-based company Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has been in the spotlight recently mainly for their work for the Mars 2020 project and the Dream Chaser Shuttle as part of the International Space Station. But this Friday, Eren and Fatih Ozmen, president and CEO, respectively, of SNC, are being honored by the College of Science at the University of Nevada. The husband and wife team are loyal alum to UNR and role models to the community as their company has focused on national security interests, space exploration, STEM interest in young people, and supports local education.
