MTS Logistics Partners with Spectrum Works to Raise Funds and Awareness for Autism

Image The team at MTS Logistics are once again taking Corporate Social Responsibility to the next level. They have just partnered with Spectrum Works, an organization that helps to integrate individuals with autism into the workforce, in an effort to raise money and awareness for their cause. In an effort to not just raise money but leave a legacy, MTS Logistics created a new type of fundraising tool. A comprehensive resource entitled The Book On Autism. It is a 180 page book that serves as the ultimate guide to Autism research and information. All proceeds from the $20 book will be donated to aid in the valuable work that Spectrum Works is doing in order to usher members of our society with autism into the workforce.

Fatih Ozmen Speaks at Commencement Ceremony of University of Nevada, Reno

Image Fatih & Eren Ozmen, Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) owners, who received honorary doctorates from the University of Nevada, Reno during the spring commencement ceremony on Friday, May 13, 2016. Fatih Ozmen, a 1981 graduate of the University with an M.S. degree in electrical engineering, is owner, along with his wife, Eren (MBA, business administration, '85) of the Sierra Nevada Corporation, an international aviation and aerospace engineering firm that is considered one of the world's fastest-growing and most innovative companies. Fatih Ozmen and Eren Ozmen have received professional achievement awards from the Alumni Association, including in 2009 when Fatih Ozmen received the Scrugham Medal from the College of Engineering. In 2014, Fatih Ozmen received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, an award presented annually to American citizens who have distinguished themselves within their own ethnic groups while exemplifying the values and spirit of the American way of life.

Turkish Day Parade in New York

Image The annual Turkish Day Parade and Festival organized by the Federation of Turkish American Associations (TADF) was celebrated for the 35th time in New York on May 20 and May 21. Activities started with the raising of the Turkish flag at Wall Street and continued with activities in Brooklyn and the traditional parade next day. The first activity of this year’s festival took place at Bowling Green Park on Wall Street on May 20.  Turkish Consul-General in New York Ertan Yalçın, Turkish U.N. Military Attaché Colonel Metin Adıyaman, New Jersey Turkish Hearth Association head Mehmet Yar, and Atatürk Culture and Education Foundation (AKDEV) head Gül Karyıldız participated in the event, as well as artists Hülya Polat and Selim Bölükbaşı, who flew to New York especially for the festival.

Founded in Istanbul in September 2002 by 37 successful women entrepreneurs, KAGIDER (Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey) is a nation-wide, non-profit civil society organization. Its mission is developing entrepreneurship among women to strengthen their status economically and socially. Sanem Oktar, KAGIDER President, talked to TURKOFAMERICA about the organization’s future and its projects.
