Rhodes is a small island, just off the Turkish Coast, with a history that is as colorful as the natural beauty of the island. According to famous Jewish historian Abraham Galant, as the 16th century opened, Cardinal D'Aubusson of Rhodes initiated forced conversion of the Jews to Catholicism and other persecutions. His intended expulsions were rescinded only because he died suddenly. Soon after, Christian pirates captured more than 2000 Jews and forced them to work on fortifications. When the Turks, under Suleiman the Magnificent (1520-1566) besieged the island, the Jews sided with the invader, who was victorious.
While Turkey is among the five greatest markets in the gold jewelry sector along with India and USA, it is also competing with Italy in the production field. According to a report by the Exports Promotion Center of Turkey, although Turkey has a goldsmithing capacity of 400 tons annually it only produces 250-300 tons of gold jewelry. Turkey has a place among the first three leading gold jewelry producers in the world, with India and US being the other two. 
As Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association prepared their strategy in 2009, the industry’s share of Turkey’s total exports was 4.2%. They are aiming to reach a level of 5.5% in 2023. To achieve this target, Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association's board have established sub-sector committees in such areas as aluminum, copper, and kitchenware. In the last five years, Turkey's chemical industry exports have increased by an average annual rate of 5%. These exports make up 5.7% of Turkey’s total exports . The industry exported 4.9 billion in 2008 and this increased by 7.5% in 2009, reaching 5.2 billion dollars. On the other hand, Turkey's chemical industry imports totalled $20 billion in 2009, falling by 21 percent when compared the previous year. 
A Syracuse-based business incubator funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today released the first comprehensive directory created to connect emerging clean technology companies with resources in Central New York that can help develop, grow, and retain businesses in this growing sector. The Clean Tech Asset Guide was published by the Clean Tech Center, a program of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce located at the Tech Garden in downtown Syracuse.

The water reserves are estimated at approximately 2,458 km3, 1,745 km3 of which are lake waters and 650 km3 in glaciers. The total surface river flow is 50 km3 and groundwater resources make up 13km3. Biotechnology is a $89 billion a year industry in the U.S. that has produced some 160 drugs and vaccines. According to Erns & Young report, in 2008 the revenues of the publicly traded global biotechnology industry increased by 12%, from US $80.3 billion in 2007 to US$89.7 billion. According to the same report, in Europe, the revenues of publicly traded companies increased by 26%. This growth rate was boosted by the impact of fluctuations in the exchange rate — when stated in euros, revenues grew by 17%.
