Turkish Entrepreneurs Congress to Take Place in Istanbul

Image More than 2,500 Turkish entrepreneurs from 90 countries will attend the Congress to take place at the Lutfi Kirdar Congress and Exhibition Center. The World Turkish Entrepreneurs Congress, organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) of Turkey, will take place in north-western province of Istanbul on November 18 and 19.

Turkish Manufacturer to Build US Headquarters in Muncie

Image Kermit USA, a Turkey-based manufacturer of specialized roofing tile, will locate its U.S. headquarters and first North American manufacturing plant in Muncie, IN.

The company plans to invest $12 million and create 70 new jobs over the next five years and will be the first tenant of the new Turkish Business Center in Muncie, occupying about 44,000 square feet of the 63,750-square-foot facility.

US Vice President Biden to Visit Turkey, Greece in December

Image US Vice President Joe Biden will visit debt-riddled Greece and Turkey, a vital American ally in the Middle East, on a major overseas trip in early December, the White House said on Monday. The White House statement didn't provide many details of Biden's exact itinerary, yet briefly said Biden will visit Ankara to discuss the “important partnership” with Turkey.

Turkish Bank Comes to Rhodes

Image Turkish Bank Ziraat began operation yesterday in the island of Rhodes, after approval by the Bank of Greece. The opening celebration is expected to take place on 13th of October. After the previous subsidiary companies in Athens, Komotini and Xanthi, Ziraat Bank aims with its new branch to attract Greek-origin retired people from Turkey that have stayed in the island of Rhodes, while the Turkish bank is expected to give credits to the retired people and their relatives.

ImageFounded fourteen years ago, the aim of Dogus University has always been to ensure quality in education. In the 2010-2011 academic year 29.9% of Dogus students received scholarships. The Dogus Group of Schools started its educational life as a High School in 1974. Later on, by establishing kindergartens, an elementary school, a science high school and an IB world school, it continued serving the Turkish Educational System in each phase of elementary and secondary education.

American Exchange Students in the Capital of Turkey Compare Turkey and the US

Image Julia Elaine Robertson and Shira Rachel Babow are exchange students at Bilkent University, located in the country’s capital city Ankara. After completing their studies, they will return to University of California. At Bilkent, international faculty and instructors make up more than a quarter of all academic staff, representing 40 different countries. There is a growing body of full-time international students, as well as exchange students visiting from more than 250 partner institutions.
 

Turkey: 1.4 Million Euro Loan and Equity Stake in Meykar Frozen Drinks Producer

Image The EBRD is making a €1.4 million investment in Meykar, one of Turkey’s leading private manufacturers and distributors of frozen beverages to expand the company’s capacities and product range.

The two-tranche financing is in the form of a convertible loan of €0.7 million that has already been disbursed and a planned €0.7 million equity injection that will come into effect as the company implements its business development plan.

The EBRD’s funds will be used to finance the purchase and installation of new equipment lines. The improvements will increase Meykar’s production capacity and distribution network across Turkey.

“We are very pleased to help Meykar’s management team with this transaction, which underlines our commitment to further develop Turkey’s fast-growing small and medium-sized private business sector. The Bank is an early investor in the company and we will continue providing our support as the company continues its growth,” Michael Davey, EBRD Director for Turkey, said.

Turkey's Economy Grows 11% in First Quarter

Image Turkey's economy grew 11 percent in the first quarter of 2011, Turkish Statistics Institute said on Thursday. The economy had grown 9.2 percent in the last quarter of 2010, and 8.9 percent throughout the previous year, higher than the expectations of the government. Turkey's GDP was up 17.9 percent in current prices and reached 284.8 billion Turkish liras-TL (175.4 billion USD). In constant prices, Turkey's economy grew 11 percent and reached 25.8 billion TL (15.8 billion USD).
