Turkey Sends 2nd Consignment of Medical Supplies to US

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A second Turkish military plane took off from an air base near Ankara on Thursday carrying more medical aid to the United States which has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The cargo plane is carrying a second consignment of personal protective equipment, including masks, hazmat suits and disinfectants, the Defense Ministry announced. Turkey also dispatched a planeload of medical supplies on Tuesday that included 500,000 surgical masks, 4,000 overalls, 2,000 liters (528 gallons) of disinfectant, 1,500 goggles, 400 N-95 masks and 500 face shields.

Turkey Flies Medical Aid to Coronavirus-stricken U.S.

ANKARA (Reuters) - A Turkish military plane carrying medical supplies and protective equipment was heading for the United States on Tuesday to deliver aid to its NATO ally battling the coronavirus outbreak. The United States, which has the highest death toll and reported cases in the global pandemic, welcomed the “generous donation” of 500,000 surgical masks, 4,000 overalls, as well as disinfectant, goggles and face shields. “We are proud to announce that Turkey will deliver medical supplies to the United States, upon our NATO ally’s request, to support America’s fight against the coronavirus,” Turkey’s Communications Directorate said.

Turkish Philanthropy Funds has launched it’s Community Relief Fund on March 31st, 2020 The fund focuses on supporting nonprofit organizations working directly to respond to the pandemic among the most vulnerable populations and to hospitals to provide the much-needed gear and equipment to help build their capacity for response both in the United States and in Turkey.
Since the launch, Founding Society Members Haldun and Nihal Tashman have pledged to match the first $100,000 raised. Additionally, Aylin and Louis Kim matched the first $2,500 donated.
To this day we are at $102,266 toward our goal of $200,000.

Sawa, a successful Turkish-American woman, will be in charge of 1.4 billion dollars.

Aycha Sawa has become the finance manager of the biggest city in Wisconsin and the fifth-largest city in the Middle West.

Having won the election by receiving over 50% of the votes, Aycha Sawa will manage the 1.6 billion-dollar budget for the city in Wisconsin. Having worked as an Assistant Finance Manager before, Sawa stated that she would carry out works that are more intertwined with society on her new duty. 

Being the daughter of a Turkish family and active in Turkish-American society since high school, Sawa has also performed local folk dance. Sawa graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006. Sawa, who works in accounting, has worked at different positions at the Department of Accounting for the Milwaukee municipality. 

She has also worked in the private sector, as she held an internship in a private bank in Turkey in the summer during her university education.
