Image Turkey's 9th president, Süleyman Demirel, dies at 91 on June 17th at 2.05pm. The 91-year-old Turkish statesman had taken to a hospital last May 13th in Güven Hospital, Ankara. He will be buried in Isparta, next to his wife who died in May 2013. Demirel had an extensive presence throughout Turkish politics in the second half of the last century, having served as Prime Minister five times (1965-1971, 1975-1977, 1979-1980, 1991-1993) and president (1993-2000).1

Image Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), a United States-based aerospace and aviation systems company, announces the formation of its newest wholly-owned subsidiary, TRJet Havacilik Teknolojileri Anonim Şirketi (TRJet). The announcement at the Paris Air Show follows SNC's May 27, 2015 signing of a Memorandum of Understanding involving the Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.S. (STM) in support of the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs & Communications to produce the country's first regional jet as part of its Regional Aircraft Project.

Turkish Airlines Confirms New Flights to Atlanta

Image Turkish Airlines as early as next May could be whisking Atlantans to Istanbul and beyond on a daily nonstop flight that has long been anticipated but was previously considered years away. In its news section, the airline’s website today posted a new schedule for the flight, which says it would start May 16, 2016, and run through Oct. 28. Turkish Airlines couldn't be reached immediately for comment.

Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya Pledges to Donate Most of Wealth

Image NEW YORK - Chobani founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya says he will join some of the world's richest individuals in pledging to give away at least half his wealth, which has been estimated at $1.41 billion. The Turkish-born yogurt entrepreneur is making the commitment as part of The Giving Pledge, which was created by Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The effort asks billionaires to commit to giving away more than half their wealth during their lifetimes or in their wills. The group notes the pledge is a "moral commitment," rather than a legal contract. It says that by asking people to make public pledges, it hopes to generate conversations about philanthropy.

Sierra Nevada Corporation Collaborates on Regional Jet Aircraft in Turkey

Image SPARKS, Nev. – Sierra Nevada Corporation’s (SNC) Chief Executive Officer Fatih Ozmen, announces that the company recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding involving the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs & Communications to meet the need of producing the country’s fırst regional jet as part of its Regional Aircraft Project (“Project”). The foundation of the Project is a modernized version of the D328 aircraft, of which all intellectual property rights have been acquired, which will be the first domestically-built passenger aircraft in Turkey. The design of a new high-tech product, the 628 aircraft series, will start simultaneously with production of the 328 series. While the Project establishes a world-class aerospace industry infrastructure in Turkey it also serves the global aviation market.  

Watson Island Developer Obtains $23M Loan

Image Mehmet Bayraktar, the developer behind the planned mixed-use development on Miami’s Watson Island, obtained financing for his $1 billion project. Bayraktar received a $22.67 million mortgage from Demir-Halk Bank, based in the Netherlands, on May 11, according to Miami-Dade County records. Island Gardens, designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates, would include two luxury hotels, a residential building, retail and restaurants.
