Turkish PAC Texas Raised 55K in 2011-2012 Election Cycle

Image Turkish American Heritage Political Action Committee (TurkishPAC), a Texas-based and U.S.A. Federal Election Committee (FEC) registered nonprofit political organization, raised more than $55,000 through multiple fundraising events. TurkishPAC had close to 60 donors contributing from $10 to $10,000. It had contributors challenging us to raise money in order to provide matching funds. Setting aside the matching contributions, the average donation was about $400. The highest donation amount excluding the matching contributions was $4,000. Istanbul, Turkey (CNN) -- In Turkey, you can't go far without coming across the name Sabanci. Sabanci Holding is the country's largest financial and industrial conglomerate. Also present in 17 other countries and covering financial, energy, cement and retail sectors, the giant accounts for 12% of Istanbul Stock Exchange, and employs 56,000 people. There is also a Sabanci University, a Sabanci Foundation and a Sakip Sabanci Museum in Istanbul.

NEW YORK- “We aim to bring long-term, stable resources to Turkey”, said Turkish Finance Minister Simsek. Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said they aim to bring long-term, stable resources to Turkey. Simsek attended a meeting which hosted about 400 investors and fund managers, organized by Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York. Later on he spoke at a press meeting in the Turkish House and said, he has been holding talks in groups with 400 fund managers in the past four days in London and New York and said, “These funds manage about $10 trillion sources in developing countries like Turkey.”

Image The failure of Fort Lee Federal Savings Bank, New Jersey's first bank failure of 2012, will cost the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. about $14 million. Of the five banks to fail statewide since the start of the financial crisis in 2008, that sum is the smallest yet. 2011's failure of First State Bank in Cranford at $45.8 million was the most expensive for the FDIC, among the New Jersey insolvencies. And smaller, of course, is better for managers of the fund that backs customers' deposits up to $250,000. The organizers of Fort Lee Federal Saving Banks were Haralambos S. Kostakopoulos, Yasemin K. Kostakopoulos, Douglas J. Cestone, Paul Oesterle and Anthony J. Sansiveri. The organizers submitted the bank application on June 16, 2000. Kostakopoulos couple was known their support to Turkish American community.

U.S. Government Delegation to Travel to Turkey and Jordan

Image On January 23-31, 2013, the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Agency for International Development will send a delegation of senior U.S. officials to Turkey and Jordan. Throughout the trip, the delegation will meet with senior government and humanitarian officials, the Syrian Opposition Council and others to discuss the humanitarian situation in and around Syria and ways the United States can provide additional support. 

Idaho's Congressional Members Try to Give Chobani A Boost through USDA Guidelines

Image Washington, D.C. – Idaho Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch and Congressman Mike Simpson are asking the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to recognize Greek yogurt under their MyPlate nutrition guidelines. In a letter to Secretary Vilsack, they point out that Greek yogurt has twice the protein and more calcium than regular yogurt, and is low in fat.

Smith School of Business, University of Maryland and Sevil Ozisik, Managing Partner of Tooma & Ozisik LLP, has been selected to serve on Turkey's "Overseas Citizens Advisory Board," a prestigious international advisory panel.  On December 28, 2012, the Turkish Prime Minister's office approved the Advisory Board members' selection after a 15-month review process of a significant number of Turks of varied backgrounds who are leaders and experts in their respective fields.

TCA Named Fourth Largest Sponsor of Congressional Travel in 2012

Image Today, Roll Call recognized TCA as the fourth largest sponsor of Congressional travel in 2012 following the American Israel Education Foundation, The Aspen Institute and the Congressional Institute. Since 2009, TCA has sponsored 15 trips and taken nearly 150 members of Congress and senior staff to Turkey and its neighboring countries to educate Congress on the importance of a vibrant    U.S.-Turkey relationship and to bring balanced dialogue to key issues on Capitol Hill.
