Turkey Sees 22% Spike in Property Sales from Foreign Home Buyers

Turkey saw a 22% spike in home sales to foreign buyers in 2017, according to a year-end report from the Turkish Statistical Institute, or Turk Stat. Despite Turkey’s spiral into authoritarianism under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, foreigners continued to snap up homes in Istanbul and the capital city, Ankara—thanks in part to a new decree offering citizenship in exchange for luxury home purchases. In January 2017, the government enacted a new initiative whereby foreigners could get Turkish citizenship in exchange for buying a home for the equivalent of US$1 million or more.

US-based Turkish Yogurt Tycoon Married in New York

United States based Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya was married with Food Dreams Foundation president Louise Vongerichten, at the Turkish Consulate General in New York with a simple ceremony on Jan. 25. Ulukaya, 45, is of Turkish origin and the founder of the Chobani yogurt firm. His wife, 30, is of French origin and the co-founder of Food Dreams Foundation. The couple will reportedly hold a wedding ceremony in Turkey in summer months.

Indy Eleven Reaches Agreement to Play Games at Lucas Oil Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indy Eleven has reached an agreement to play their games at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2018. The Capital Improvement Board, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, and Indy Eleven owner Ersal Ozdemir  made the announcement at 10 a.m. Monday morning. In the previous seasons, the team has played at IUPUI’s Carroll Stadium.
