Sierra Nevada Corporation Meets NASA Milestone; Signs Deal With Japan

Image Earlier this week, the Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) announced that it had achieved another technical milestone under its $212.5 million Commercial Crew Integrated Capability contract with NASA. The contract is aimed at aiding SNC in the development of its Dream Chaser spacecraft, a reusable spacecraft which is designed to carry astronauts into low Earth orbit and, the company hopes, carry NASA astronauts to the International Space Station.

Turkish citizens residing in the U.S began to make their appointments to vote on Monday, July 21. The last day to schedule an appointment to vote is 10 a.m. EST Friday, July 25. Voters will only be able to vote on their appointment day scheduled for one of four days between July 31 and August 3. Appointments can be made online at www.ysk.gov.tr. The online appointment system will assign the appointment day automatically for voters, who do not get their appointments before Friday, July 25. Voters can learn their assigned appointment day starting on Saturday, July 26 by visiting www.ysk.gov.tr and going to the “Nerede Oy Kullanacağım” section.

SpaceX Successfully Launches Orbcomm Satellites

Image After two months of delays, SpaceX achieved success today in its launch of six Orbcomm telecommunications satellites into orbit on Monday, July 14. All six satellites have been successfully deployed in orbit. The six satellites, which were built by the Sierra Nevada Corporation, are part of Orbcomm’s next generation of satellites, which aim to provide faster and more robust data systems to its customers, as well as increasing the company’s overall network capacity. The six satellites are the first part of what’s envisioned to be a 17-satellite constellation, which the company aims to have in orbit by the end of the year.

Image NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans announced Tuesday an expected trade with the Houston Rockets for center Omer Asik, which now includes a third team, the Washington Wizards. The trade came after a near month-long agreement with the Rockets to acquire Asik, the 7-foot center who became expendable following the Rockets signing of Dwight Howard.

Largest Summer Fancy Food Show Ends on High Note

Image NEW YORK (July 14, 2014) – The Summer Fancy Food Show, the largest since it was first presented in 1955, is drawing strong reviews from exhibitors and attendees alike. The sold-out exhibit halls, filling 361,000 sq. ft., featured more than 1,400 U.S. exhibitors and 1,291 from around the world. The trade-only event took place June 29–July 1, 2014, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Amid record demand for specialty food, the show drew more than 22,000 attendees from top names in U.S. retailing and restaurants, including Whole Foods, Dean & DeLuca, Kroger and Le Pain Quotidien and buying delegations from Europe and countries as diverse as Uruguay, Paraguay, Albania, and China.

American Teachers Embark on Journey through Turkey

Image The first group of a total of 48 American middle and high school teachers arrived in Istanbul  and began their 14-day journey through Turkey on the Turkish Cultural Foundation's Teacher Study Tours. The teachers were selected from among participants in the Teacher Workshops on Turkey organized under the Spotlight on Turkey 2014 program, by 10 local chapters of the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) and TCF. The second group will be visiting Turkey on July 14-27. This year’s teachers hail from the states of Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, and Virginia. Three Turkish teachers and one Turkish American educator will accompany the tours as volunteers with a view to further facilitate exchanges between Turkish and American educators.
