Hate Crime Education, Awareness and Response Seminar

Turkish-American Community Members who are based in Staten Island also attended the seminar and praised the work what NYPD is doing for the Communities. After reporting a big increase in the number of hate crimes in the immediate aftermath of President Trump’s victory last November, the NYPD Officials said that the hate crimes have since “leveled off”though they are still up compared to the norm.NYPD increases patrols around places of worship after hate crime increases in New York.

There were also recently few cases occurred in the City such as a man accused of harassing an off-duty Muslim police officer previously commended for heroism. Last Month, Police Commissioner James O'Neill warned people who is thinking about committing a hate crime." Rest assured that you will be identified and you will arrested and you will be charged accordingly. There is no place for that in New York City."
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand called on Capitol Hill to increase anti-terror funding for religious organizations in the New York City from $20 million to $25 million in the wake of the spate of hate crimes.
