After receiving a bachelor’s degree in international relations at Girne American University in Cyprus, Baran moved to Miami to live with his sister. He arrived in 1999 with $600 in savings.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - Some Magic Valley organizations now have the opportunity to kickstart their ideas and make some dreams come true. Back in October, Chobani launched the Community Impact Fund, planning to invest $1 million in the Magic Valley over the next decade. $100,000 will be given annually and on Thursday, the company announced the recipients for the year. Magic Valley Rehabilitation Services received $20,000. Executive Director Charles Kelly, with the nonprofit, said they plan to open up a coffee shop located at County West.

Lincoln McCurdy, president of the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA), was one of the fifteen 2018 laureates from 13 countries receiving the Gusi International Peace Prize at its 17th annual awards ceremony on November 28 in Manila, Philippines. The Gusi Peace Prize, established in 2002, is Asia’s foremost award that recognizes individuals and organizations working toward the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity.
The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) is now accepting applications for the 12th Annual Washington Summer Internship Program. The TCA Internship Program is open to undergraduate/graduate students and recent graduates of Turkish American heritage. Now in its twelfth year, the TCA Washington Summer Internship Program has provided 187 internship opportunities for young Turkish Americans at Congressional offices throughout Washington, DC. Designed to enhance Turkish American participation in political life, the program provides an opportunity for young Turkish Americans to live and work in the nation’s capital, learn about the American political process, contribute to U.S.-Turkey relations and the TCA mission, and explore career opportunities in public affairs.

NYPD Chief of Department Terrence Monahan, Captain Jamiel Altaheri and Mr. Nabil Zebib received Awards for their contribution and hard word from the Society. In addition, Society Board Members, Board of Trustees, Advisory Board Members and ME&Turkic American Community leaders enjoyed the folk dance from different ethnic groups and international food.

We aim to serve as a bridge between the multitude of backgrounds commonly found amongst people of The Mid-East and Turkic heritage and to celebrate our rich cultural and religious diversity.

The Turkish Coalition of America’s Fifth Annual Turkish American Youth Leadership Congress took place in Washington, D.C., October 25-28. Twenty nine delegates participated in the 2018 Youth Congress, including twenty-seven Turkish American college students, recent graduates, and young professionals from 14 states, Turkey and Great Britain. Additionally, there were two representatives participating from the Council of Turkish Canadians (CTC) and the Australian Turkish Advocacy Alliance (ATAA).
Three long time Turkish American activists have been awarded TURYAK Exemplary Senior Citizen Award. TURYAK stands Turk Yaslilik Konseyi which translates into Turkish Senior Citizens Council. Established in 2003, TURYAK is a member of International Federation on Aging. TURYAK gives awards to outstanding senior citizens in Turkey and also in U.S., Germany, England and Australia where there is sizable Turkish immigrant presence. Oya Bain TASC Secretary General, is a retired biochemist who held leadership positions in clinical pathology laboratories. She retired from Georgetown University Hospital as the technical director of the Clinical Pathology Department of Laboratory Medicine.
