Batman and Superman Help Turkish Airlines strategy to Become Aviation Maverick

Image Turkish Airlines claims to fly to the fictitious cities of Metropolis and Gotham City, home of Superman and Batman in the much-anticipated new superheroes movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which opens worldwide on Friday. But such a claim is not so far from the reality of its expansive network. The “Ottoman Empire" super connector travels to 113 countries, more than any other airline in the world, thanks to its strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East and Asia. With a shrewd marketing strategy and an eye on the US market, the airline is sponsoring what may be the year’s biggest commercial cinema hit, with a pivotal scene taking place aboard a Boeing 777 Turkish Airlines plane.

Turkish Businessman Arrested Over Iran Sanctions Violations

Image U.S. authorities arrested a Turkish businessman on charges alleging he engaged in a scheme to help the Iranian government evade U.S. and international sanctions. Reza Zarrab was arrested Saturday in Miami and charged in an indictment unsealed Monday in New York federal court alleging he engaged in hundreds of millions of dollars worth of transactions between 2010 and 2015 on behalf of Iran’s government and other entities, laundered the proceeds and defrauded financial institutions by concealing the nature of the transactions. Two others, Iranians Camelia Jamishidy and Hossein Najafzadeh, were also charged in the indictment; they both are at large, prosecutors said.

Comodo Discovers A Malware Strikes The Largest Indian Bank

Image Comodo Threat Research Labs, a provider of computer software and SSL digital certificates, based in Clifton, N.J., has discovered a malware attack targeting ICICI Bank, a multinational bank based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The bank has more than 4,000 branches and 13,000 ATMs in India. Fake email disguised as official bank notices ask recipients to update banking details and say the update is mandatory. The sender is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. which appears legitimate at first glance, but the domain name is not connected to the bank.

McDonald's Partners With Chobani

Image McDonald’s ongoing effort to simultaneously appear to offer healthier food and attract hungry customers has resulted in a tentative partnership with yogurt maker Chobani. The AP reports that around 800 McDonald’s locations in California will be testing parfaits and smoothies made using the popular Greek-style yogurt.

Sierra Nevada Corporation Breaks Ground on Huntsville, Alabama Hangar

BlackBerry Partners with Dr. Oz's Sharecare

Image Smartphone users can soon get health advice directly from medical experts thanks to a new partnership between Waterloo-based Blackberry and digital wellness platform Sharecare, co-created by Dr. Mehmet Oz and WebMD founder Jeff Arnold. The companies announced the launch of the service, called the Sharecare BBM channel, in a release Wednesday saying it will connect users to major health organizations and medical professionals from inside Blackberry's messaging service, BBM. "Experts ranging from the American Cancer Society to licensed physicians and nurses, and luminaries from Deepak Chopra to Dr. Oz can be connected to users to help them find the health answers, advice and resources that are right for them," the release states.

Turkish Pasta Imports Contentious Issue

Image Canadian pasta manufacturers want importers to stop bringing subsidized Turkish pasta into the country because it is hurting them along with millers and farmers. “Canada is becoming the North American dumping ground for cheap Turkish pasta,” said Don Jarvis, executive director of the Canadian Pasta Manufacturers Association (CPMA). “We are extremely concerned about the impacts that subsidized and dumped pasta will have on local Canadian businesses.” More than five million tonnes of pasta was imported into Canada from Turkey between January and November 2015, almost tripling 2014 import volumes. The landed price of that pasta was 50 percent less than Italian imports and 40 percent cheaper than U.S. imports, according to Statistics Canada.
