A Farewell to Last Heir of Ottoman Empire Prince Osman Bayezid

Last week, the last heir to the former Ottoman Empire, Osman Bayezid Osmanoğlu, also known as Osman Bayezid Efendi, passed away at the age of 92 and was laid to rest in New York. Osman Bayezid Efendi, who studied French Literature, worked at the New York Library for almost 34 years. He was able to speak six different languages and despite being the first Ottoman heir to be born in exile, he could speak Turkish fluently. A man known for his modesty and kindness, he was so thoughtful that when he failed to attend to an invitation, his brother, Cem Osmanoğlu, joked by saying, "He must be dead. Otherwise he would be here," only to find out later that Bayezid Efendi had indeed been hospitalized.

His Imperial Highness Prince Bayezid Osman died on Friday in New York. He was 93. Mr. Osman was a descendant of Osman I, the Anatolian ruler who in 1299 established the kingdom that eventually controlled parts of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He was born in Paris in 1924 and then moved to United States in 1944 with his mother, Princess Sadiye Hadice and his brother Prince Cem. The Late Prince's funeral service will be held at 12.00pm on January 9th, 2017 at Amerikan Turkish Eyup Sultan Center in Brooklyn. He will be buried at muslim section of Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in Mt. Sinai, NY

Gul Turkmenoglu Has Been Appointed General Manager at The Benjamin

American Injured in Turkey Nightclub Calls Attack 'a Massive Tragedy'

Image The American who was injured in the shooting rampage at an Istanbul nightclub told Turkish reporters today that he was part of a group of about nine people at the a New Year's Eve celebration at the club and that seven of them had been shot. Jacob Raak, who spoke to reporters while on a gurney at an airport in Istanbul, also seemed to allude to the fact that Americans don't live with a daily concern about terror attacks in the same way as people in Turkey.

The daughter of Muhtar Kent, chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Co., is trying her hand at high-end jewelry design. Selin Kent, 30, has created a collection of rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets featuring clean lines and minimalist design. Although she launched the brand two years ago in New York that today sells in about 10 stores, the young designer on Oct. 1 debuted the collection at her first store in Atlanta — Mednikow Jewelers in Buckhead, located across from Lenox Square mall. “It’s an exciting opportunity to test the market here,” said Selin, a native of Turkey who was in town in early October to celebrate the launch. “My parents live here, so it’s a nice opportunity to see them as well.”

Turkey Targets $2 bln from TV Series

Image Turkey plans to increase its revenue from the export of Turkish series and soap operas worldwide to $2 billion by 2023, Metin Tunçtürk, the chairman of the professional body of film producers, FIYAB, has said. “The Turkish drama sector is open to the world and is set to become a locomotive for an economic, cultural and global national breakthrough,” Tuncturk said.
