"During 2007, 650,000 American tourists visited Turkey. This is the highest number ever recorded. In recent years, the number of tourists visiting Turkey has increased at a rate that is almost three times the world average, with 23.3 million people visiting Turkey in 2007. In 2006, there were 19 million, while in 2005, 21 million visited Turkey. The Culture and Tourism Ministry, which has established a 10 million dollar budget for the North American market in 2008, plans on bringing 1 million American tourists to Turkey by the end of the year." The volume of the health tourism market has reached $20 billion in the U.S. This number is expected to double by 2010.

In 1950’s and 1960’s, many doctors and engineers came to the USA from Turkey, creating a new trend, among the educated, of moving to the continent.  During the years after WWII, economic and military relations between the USA and Turkey played an important role in the arrival of 4,000 Turkish engineers and doctors to this country.

The move, which had a slow pace in the beginning, increased as per arrangement between Turkey and the European Economic Community in 1963. While there were 6800 Turkish people living in Germany in 1961, with the arrival of new immigrants the number went up to over 1 million in 1975 and climbed to over 2 million in 1998.

Vienna – Vienna is the capital of an old Empire and you realize this better while roaming the streets of the city. The Cathedral of St. Stephens, which is extensively mentioned in the Turkish traveler Evliya Celebi’s Book of Travels, is the symbol of the city. Just as it is a must for travelers to see Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and the Empire State Building in New York, it is a must to see the Cathedral of St. Stephens in Vienna.
