Orlando Magics Acquire 7-footer Omer Asik

Image NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans announced Tuesday an expected trade with the Houston Rockets for center Omer Asik, which now includes a third team, the Washington Wizards. The trade came after a near month-long agreement with the Rockets to acquire Asik, the 7-foot center who became expendable following the Rockets signing of Dwight Howard.

Largest Summer Fancy Food Show Ends on High Note

Image NEW YORK (July 14, 2014) – The Summer Fancy Food Show, the largest since it was first presented in 1955, is drawing strong reviews from exhibitors and attendees alike. The sold-out exhibit halls, filling 361,000 sq. ft., featured more than 1,400 U.S. exhibitors and 1,291 from around the world. The trade-only event took place June 29–July 1, 2014, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Amid record demand for specialty food, the show drew more than 22,000 attendees from top names in U.S. retailing and restaurants, including Whole Foods, Dean & DeLuca, Kroger and Le Pain Quotidien and buying delegations from Europe and countries as diverse as Uruguay, Paraguay, Albania, and China.

American Teachers Embark on Journey through Turkey

Image The first group of a total of 48 American middle and high school teachers arrived in Istanbul  and began their 14-day journey through Turkey on the Turkish Cultural Foundation's Teacher Study Tours. The teachers were selected from among participants in the Teacher Workshops on Turkey organized under the Spotlight on Turkey 2014 program, by 10 local chapters of the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) and TCF. The second group will be visiting Turkey on July 14-27. This year’s teachers hail from the states of Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, and Virginia. Three Turkish teachers and one Turkish American educator will accompany the tours as volunteers with a view to further facilitate exchanges between Turkish and American educators.

TV's Dr Oz Faces Capitol Hill Critics

Image DR Mehmet Oz's enthusiasm for "miracle" weight-loss cures landed the celebrity surgeon in the hot seat on Capitol Hill in Washington. US politicians grilled him about dubious diet products popularised on his hit TV talk show.
Oz was the star witness at a hearing on diet scams hosted by Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, a Democrat who chairs a Senate panel on consumer protection. In sometimes-contentious exchanges with McCaskill and other senators, Oz described himself as a victim.

Sierra Nevada Corp. Space Systems Buys Technology Supplier for Dream Chaser Spaceship

Image Sierra Nevada Corp. Space Systems bought a company that makes spaceship engine and life-support systems used in the Dream Chaser space plane it’s creating to ferry NASA and private sector astronauts into orbit. The Louisville company reached agreement to make Orbital Technologies Corp., of Madison, Wisconsin, a wholly-owned subsidiary, the companies announced Thursday. Terms were not disclosed. Sierra Nevada Corp. Space Systems is a division of Sparks, Nevada-based Sierra Nevada Corp., a privately-held defense and aerospace company.

Enes Kanter Having Platelet-rich plasma Treatment to Treat Right Knee

Image SALT LAKE CITY - Jazz centre Enes Kanter is undergoing platelet-rich plasma treatment to help with tendinitis in his right knee. The injection is designed to stimulate recovery in the 22-year-old's joints. The team says he is receiving the treatment on Tuesday and should be able to return to physical activity in two weeks. Because of the treatment, Kanter will not take part in the FIBA World Cup with the Turkish national team.
