Chobani Announces $100K Grant Recipients in Magic Valley

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - Some Magic Valley organizations now have the opportunity to kickstart their ideas and make some dreams come true. Back in October, Chobani launched the Community Impact Fund, planning to invest $1 million in the Magic Valley over the next decade. $100,000 will be given annually and on Thursday, the company announced the recipients for the year. Magic Valley Rehabilitation Services received $20,000. Executive Director Charles Kelly, with the nonprofit, said they plan to open up a coffee shop located at County West.

Turkish Cultural Foundation Releases 2017 Annual Report

Last year, Turkish Cultural Foundation allocated a total of $373,289 to grants, operational and program disbursements to pursue its mission. TCF continued to be a leading private grantmaker in the area of Turkish cultural preservation and promotion. In 2017, TCF provided a total of $52,724.81 in grants and fellowships to organizations and individuals. The TCF Fellowship programs help build artistic, cultural and scholarly exchanges across the globe. In 2017, TCF awarded six fellowships, bringing the total to 204 awards awards since we began the programs.

Sean Penn Jets in to Turkey and Meets with An Adviser to President Erdogan

A Turkish official says Sean Penn is in Turkey working on a documentary about the slaying of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Yasin Aktay, an adviser to Turkey's president, said Thursday that the two-time Oscar winner interviewed him in Ankara as part of his 'preliminary preparations' for the documentary before leaving for Istanbul where he was due to meet with Khashoggi's Turkish fiancee. The 58-year-old Hollywood actor has been in Turkey working on the death of the Washington Post columnist who was critical of the Saudi crown prince. Khashoggi was killed by Saudi agents on October 2 after arriving to handle routine paperwork.

Coca-Cola Chairman Muhtar Kent to Retire After 10 Years in the Role

Coca-Cola Co. KO, +0.61% said Thursday Chairman Muhtar Kent plans to retire in April, after about 10 years in the role. Kent also served as chief executive officer of the Coke parent from 2009 to 2017, when he was succeeded by current CEO James Quincey in May 2017. The beverage giant said Quincey has been elected to become chairman after the company's annual meeting in April 2019. The stock fell 1.7% in morning trade. It has gained 6.2% year to date, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.22% has lost 1.9%.

Turkey’s Ciner Group Acquires U.S. Property for $22.9 Million

Turkish energy to media company Ciner Group has acquired a 25-foot-wide townhouse on East 55th Street, Midtown Manhattan, for $22.9 million. Ciner Group said that the Manhattan townhouse will be headquarters for a new company that has been established to make $2 billion in commitments. The 8,000-square-foot building is a Tudor-style building arrayed in purplish brick, with terra cotta details. Ciner Group acquired the property from UK video production and distribution company DLT Entertainment, Ltd.

TCA and Its President Receive International Peace Prize

G. Lincoln McCurdy, president of the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA), was one of the fifteen 2018 laureates from 13 countries receiving the Gusi International Peace Prize at its 17th annual awards ceremony on November 28 in Manila, Philippines.  The Gusi Peace Prize, established in 2002, is Asia’s foremost award that recognizes individuals and organizations working toward the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity.

The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) is now accepting applications for the 12th Annual Washington Summer Internship Program. The TCA Internship Program is open to undergraduate/graduate students and recent graduates of Turkish American heritage. Now in its twelfth year, the TCA Washington Summer Internship Program has provided 187 internship opportunities for young Turkish Americans at Congressional offices throughout Washington, DC. Designed to enhance Turkish American participation in political life, the program provides an opportunity for young Turkish Americans to live and work in the nation’s capital, learn about the American political process, contribute to U.S.-Turkey relations and the TCA mission, and explore career opportunities in public affairs.

American Siblings Find Estranged Turkish Father After Series of Family Feuds

The late mother of Chicago-born Candice Jackson and Henry Kevin Jackson has been telling them her estranged husband was a Greek shipowner, but the brother and sister have found out he was actually a Turkish businessman, thanks to the man’s ongoing feud with his own brother. According to the report published by Demirören News Agency on Nov. 11, Turkish citizen Kasım Pırlant moved to the United States in 1973 and started to work as a waiter at a restaurant in Chicago. Rising quickly in the business, Pırlant bought his own restaurant and also entered the real estate sector in the 1970s. His rise continued in the 1980s, during which he bought nine shopping malls in Illinois.
