Unity Bancorp, Inc. Clinton is a 19-branch-bank headquartered in New Jersey. It operates in Bergen, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties of New Jersey as well as in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. Three Turkish executives work in the bank, which has total assets of 2 billion dollars. Emre Haşmet, Evrim Çiçek and Nihal Birdir are a gateway to the Turkish-American community at the bank with nearly 200 employees.
Evrim Çiçek, who previously had career experiences at national banks such as PNC and Chase, has been working as the regional manager at the bank since February 2018. Çiçek graduated from The School of Economics, Dumlupinar University in Turkey and had a master's degree in accounting and finance at DeVry University in the US. She worked as deputy branch manager for six years in the Warren, New Jersey branch of JP Morgan Chase, one of the leading banks in America, and worked as a branch manager at PNC Bank between 2014 and 2018. Çiçek joined the Unity Bank family in January 2018 and got promoted to regional manager in May 2020. After gaining experience in big national banks, she considers Unity Bank, which is classified as a community bank, as a warm and friendly environment. "While working in big banks, you do not have much opportunity to use initiative. Here, the customer-banker relationship is more intimate" she says.

Turkish American Real Estate Professionals in the US

By Cemil Özyurt - According to TURKOFAMERICA’s research, there are over 500 real estate professionals who have been actively selling and buying homes, renting residential and commercial spaces. The Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) estimates that there are about 2 million active real estate licensees in the United States. There are 106,548 real estate brokerage firms operating as well. Trulia, the real-estate listings and data portal, searched nearly 83,000 agent profiles in the U.S. in 2014 to find the most commonly spoken languages. The most popular, after English, was Spanish at 12.2%, followed by French with 2.5%, Russian, Mandarin and German. About 15% of real-estate agents report speaking a second language, according to the National Association of Realtors. Majority of Turkish-American real estate professionals work in New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, and Texas. There are approximately 250 real estate professionals work in New York, New Jersey and about 100 of them operate in Florida.

Turks Who Own Manhattan's Most Expensive Homes

By Cemil Özyurt – TURKOFAMERICA - Over the past ten years we have seen many foreign buyers claiming their piece of Manhattan, though they were still a small part of the all over Manhattan real estate market. In 2016 Manhattan real estate appraisal company Miller Samuel estimated that foreign buyers made up about 15 percent of all buyers in Manhattan, though for new development, it was higher. Since 2017 there has been a rapid decline in foreign buyers. The strength of the US dollar, the US Treasury Department’s recent mandate of identity disclosure of purchasers, and restrictions on outbound investment by countries like China, and tense political climate between the US and have all effected the perceived attractiveness of Manhattan real estate for foreign buyers. According to a report by Baker McKenzie over all Chinese investment in North America has declined 83% in just two years.

Ali Cinar: "Journalism is best when it aims to have a lasting impact"

Turk of America Senior Diplomatic Journalist Ali Cinar member of the Association Foreign Press Correspondents (AFPC-USA), gave a live tour from the inside of the White House.Cinar is accredited journalist by White House since 2019.

“I’m just so happy to be here,” Ali Cinar explained as he set up his tripod in preparation for his interview as a foreign correspondent and member of the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in the USA.

Cinar suggested broadcasting live from the White House so members of the AFPC-USA could see how the press covers the president. He even provided us with an impromptu tour. He has been covering the White House for the Turk of America since 2019. “So I was able to cover the last year of the Trump administration, and this year of the Biden [administration],” he explained.

He stated that both presidents had different approaches to press covering the White House in regards to COVID-19. “During the Trump administration, because of the [pandemic], it was strict but not that strict,” he explained. “At the beginning, the Biden administration was much more strict about wearing masks. So I’ve been able to compare and see how their systems work.”

He started his career in journalism in 2002, after spending some time as a marketing representative for fortune 500 companies in Europe and the Middle East. “When I was a student doing my master’s degree, I was always writing. I started working with a Fortune 500 company, and I still write for them now. Turk of America magazine.”

Cinar has been with Turk of America since its inception in 2002. It is the first and only Turkish magazine in circulation in the United States. “I was a reporter in the beginning … I was writing articles and became a correspondent. I’ve done special interviews with the United Nations senior officials, the New York City mayor, and so on,” he explained.

Now, Cinar is regarded as a foreign policy expert. He has been featured on various news networks to speak about Turkish-U.S. relations. And Cinar credited his expertise on the subject to the countless hours of reporting he’s put in over the years. “I am always in the field,” Cinar said. He expressed the importance of in-person reporting. “I’m not just sitting at the office and writing articles. I am in the field … I’m talking and attending press briefings every week,” he recalled.

Additionally, Cinar has been able to sit down for interviews with many different representatives. He explained that interviews are essential for gaining an understanding as a journalist. “I’ve had the chance to interview top admirals, generals, and ambassadors. This is a good reference for me to have good interviews and to cover different stories,” he explained.

According to Cinar, the connections that journalists can make in the field are arguably the most important of your career. As a foreign correspondent with broadcast and print work, Cinar stressed the importance of making connections. “For journalists, we don’t know what’s going to happen next year,” he said. “I might go work with a different publication or agency, but keeping a good network is very important. You build your network. You meet a lot of people, and they see all the hard work that you do.”

He continued, “When it comes to foreign policy, I have American colleagues that work for CNN, Fox, and others. When it comes to Turkish news, they come to me for developments.” “So it’s really the number one is networking, and number two is opportunities,” he stated.

For Cinar, the best thing a journalist can have is the desire to have a lasting impact.

“Making a difference, I think, is the most important part for the journalist. Be the frontrunner, be the first to share the information with the public,” Cinar advised.

F-1 Students Seeking Optional Practical Training Can Now File Form I-765 Online

WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced that F-1 students seeking optional practical training (OPT) can now file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, online if they are filing under one of these categories: (c)(3)(A) – Pre-Completion OPT; (c)(3)(B) – Post-Completion OPT; and (c)(3)(C) – 24-Month Extension of OPT for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students.
OPT is temporary employment that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. Eligible students can apply to receive up to 12 months of OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies (pre-completion) and/or after completing their academic studies (post-completion). Eligible F-1 students who receive STEM degrees may apply for a 24-month extension of their post-completion OPT.

‘Salt Bae’ Slapped with $5M Copyright Suit Over Artwork of Chef

Famed chef Nusr-et Gökçe — better known as “Salt Bae” — has been hit with a $5 million copyright infringement lawsuit by a Brooklyn artist, who alleges the social media star used his artwork all over the world without permission according to New York Post' report. William Hicks says he and fellow artist Josphe Iurato were hired by Gökçe in September 2017 to make a mural of Turkish restaurateur “in his signature salt-sprinkling pose,” according to a Manhattan Federal lawsuit from Monday. The first work was displayed in Gökçe’s Miami steakhouse and subsequent commissioned stencil murals also went up at his restaurants in Doha, Dubai and New York, the court papers say.
