He is the loving father of Varol (Selen) Ablak, Seckin (Maria) Ablak, & Shan (Joshua) Hoyt; treasured grandfather of ten; proud great grandfather of two; caring brother of Esat Ablak.

Turkish Consulate General Relocates Near the UN

The Turkish Consulate General has inked a lease for new offices at Fisher Brothers’ 605 Third Avenue in Midtown East, according to the landlord. The consulate will decamp Durst Organization’s nearby 825 Third Avenue and move down the block to 19,871 square feet at 605 Third Avenue next month. The organization will take over the entire 30th floor of the 1.1-million-square-foot building between East 39th and East 40th Streets. Asking rent in the transaction was in the $70s per square foot. A Fisher Brothers spokeswoman declined to comment on the length of the lease.

It's also the amount of money NASA and the Sierra Nevada Corp. spent developing the Dream Chaser, a reusable spacecraft designed to take astronauts into orbit. Sierra Nevada, which is based in Sparks, Nevada, and 100% owned by Eren Ozmen and her husband, Fatih, put in $300 million; NASA ponied up the other $350 million. The Dream Chaser's first free flight was in October 2013 when it was dropped 12,500 feet from a helicopter. The landing gear malfunctioned, and the vehicle skidded off the runway upon landing. A year later, NASA passed on Sierra Nevada's space plane and awarded the multibillion-dollar contracts to Boeing and SpaceX.

Borusan Mannesmann Denied Exemption From Tariffs

A steel pipe manufacturer in Baytown, which received national exposure for an aggressive campaign to get the ears of the Trump administration, has been denied an exemption from new tariffs on foreign steel. In order to avoid the tariffs on steel tube from its parent company in Turkey, Borusan Mannesmann CEO Joel Johnson got creative. In addition to a formal exemption request to the U.S. Department of Commerce, he asked the workers at the Baytown plant to write postcards to President Donald Trump and other government officials.

US Experts Raise Concern Over FETO Threat in America

Washington, DC - AA - American experts on Wednesday warned of the threat posed by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) in the country. "I believe that the Gulen movement in the U.S. presents a unique and unusual security threat," said Mark Hall, producer, screenwriter and director of the documentary, "Killing Ed", which probed the financial practices of FETO-linked charter schools in the U.S. Speaking at the panel, "July 15 Coup attempt: Two Years Later", organized by the Turkish Heritage Organization (THO), a Washington-based think tank, Hall said FETO threatens the U.S. mainly by bringing in unqualified employees from other countries, especially from Turkey, as well as through money laundering and forgery of documents, deceiving local and federal authorities.

Turkish Airlines signed a significant deal with American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT), one of the world's leading agencies for corporate travel. With this agreement, signed by Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, M. İlker Aycı, and Amex GBT’s Board Chairman, Greg O’Hara, within today, Turkish Airlines expands its existing collaboration with AMEX to a global partnership, which was on regional scale between 2014-2017 and including just Europe, North America and Asia / Pacific regions. The global carrier who has added the "South America" region to the new joint service area with Amex GBT, will also become one of the airlines supported by Amex GBT at the top level, within the scope of this expanded agreement.

American Varroc Lighting Acquires Turkish Automotive Firm

Exterior vehicle lighting specialist U.S.-based Varroc Lighting Sytems has acquired Istanbul-based Sa-ba Automotive, a statement confirmed Monday. "Through Sa-ba Automotive, Varroc Lighting gains valuable manufacturing and production capacity with a 10,000-square-meter manufacturing and technology center near Istanbul, and a new plant under construction in Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria," the statement said. The terms and conditions of the acquisition, however, were not disclosed. It also noted that the 20,000-square-meter Bulgaria plant will give Varroc Lighting expanded and scalable production capacity for its European customers.

If I had to sum up the Turkish election in one word it would be “democracy.” The voter turnout rate was 87 percent and five different political parties passed the 10 percent threshold needed to enter parliament.
