Turkey Sees 22% Spike in Property Sales from Foreign Home Buyers

Turkey saw a 22% spike in home sales to foreign buyers in 2017, according to a year-end report from the Turkish Statistical Institute, or Turk Stat. Despite Turkey’s spiral into authoritarianism under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, foreigners continued to snap up homes in Istanbul and the capital city, Ankara—thanks in part to a new decree offering citizenship in exchange for luxury home purchases. In January 2017, the government enacted a new initiative whereby foreigners could get Turkish citizenship in exchange for buying a home for the equivalent of US$1 million or more.

US-based Turkish Yogurt Tycoon Married in New York

United States based Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya was married with Food Dreams Foundation president Louise Vongerichten, at the Turkish Consulate General in New York with a simple ceremony on Jan. 25. Ulukaya, 45, is of Turkish origin and the founder of the Chobani yogurt firm. His wife, 30, is of French origin and the co-founder of Food Dreams Foundation. The couple will reportedly hold a wedding ceremony in Turkey in summer months.

Indy Eleven Reaches Agreement to Play Games at Lucas Oil Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indy Eleven has reached an agreement to play their games at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2018. The Capital Improvement Board, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, and Indy Eleven owner Ersal Ozdemir made the announcement at 10 a.m. Monday morning. In the previous seasons, the team has played at IUPUI’s Carroll Stadium.

Turkey's operation in Syria's Afrin: The key players

On Saturday, Turkey launched an operation in the northern Syrian enclave of Afrin aimed at rooting out armed Kurdish groups, which Ankara considers a threat to its security. Turkish ground troops followed a day after, crossing the border into Syria alongside thousands of Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters, as part of the so-called Operation Olive Branch. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had said that the operation in Afrin would be followed by a push into the northern town of Manbij, which the US-backed Kurdish forces captured from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) in 2016.

Bağ studied hotel management in Turkey’s Bolu İzzet Baysal University. After coming to USA, he started working in Holiday Inn Wall Street in 2004. And, since 2006, he has been working as the manager of Roger Smith Hotel, which is one of Manhattan’s rare family hotels, located on Lexington Avenue between 47th and 48th streets.

In his closing remarks at the conference, Beasey had said: “We are going to hold a better conference on May 21-23 in 2017 and we hope to see you all there.” ATC’s relations with its partners in Turkey, DEİK and TAİK, had become tense after the Gezi Park protests of 2013 following a press release of the ATC on the Gezi Park. And, the issue that rose after this statement had caused the executive team of the Council to leave.
