Emily Francis, English as a Second Language teacher at W.M. Irvin, traveled to California last week to be on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Francis was selected as a guest because of her kindness and dedication to her students. A former Cabarrus County Schools Teacher of the Year, Francis moved from Guatemala to the United States when she was 15 and told Ellen she learned English by watching her on television.

Beasey had faced his first serious test during the 35th annual conference held between the dates of October 31 and November 1 in 2016. In his closing remarks at the conference, Beasey had said: “We are going to hold a better conference on May 21-23 in 2017 and we hope to see you all there.” ATC’s relations with its partners in Turkey, DEİK and TAİK, had become tense after the Gezi Park protests of 2013 following a press release of the ATC on the Gezi Park. And, the issue that rose after this statement had caused the executive team of the Council to leave.
Leading Turkish businessman Mehmet Ali Yalçındağ has been elected as the new head of the Turkish-American Business Council (TAİK). In a general assembly election of the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) on Jan. 11, new presidents were elected to 66 of the 142 business councils. “The political, economic and trade ties between Turkey and the U.S. have run in different gears from time to time. As the representatives of the business world, our main aim is to minimize the differences in point of views and priorities,” Yalçındağ told Hürriyet Daily News, adding that TAİK would work to boost bilateral relations.

According to the data published by Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association (CIB=Çelik İhracatçıları Birliği), Turkish steel exports increased by 7 pct YoY to 13.1 mln tons in the first nine months of 2017. Export value increased by 23.4 pct to USD 8.2 bln. In Jan-Sept 2017, EU remains the top destination for Turkish steel exports. Steel exports to EU were 4 mln tons, a considerable 53 pct increase against the same period last year. Turkish steel exports to Middle East were 3 mln tons and that of North Africa were 1.1 mln tons.

On September 29, TCA hosted a panel discussion on the ‘Success Stories of Turkish American Women in Washington’ in collaboration with Turkish Women’s International Network’s (TurkishWIN) DC chapter at TCA headquarters. The speakers included Ceyla Pazarbasioglu, Senior Director of Finance and Markets Global Practice at the World Bank Group; Gonul Tol, Director of the Middle East Institute’s Center for Turkish Studies; and Merve Hande Akmehmet, Managing Partner of Sandalyeci and President of the Hologram Network. The moderator for the event was Sebnem Kalemli-Ozcan, the Neil Moskowitz Endowed Professor of Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park.
DHAKA – Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu reached Bangladesh on Thursday to meet members of the minority Muslim Rohingya community who arrived in the country recently, fleeing ongoing violence in the Rakhine state in western Myanmar. Erdogan and Cavusoglu, who arrived separately, are set to visit refugee camps in the district of Cox’s Bazaar in southeastern Bangladesh, close to the border with Myanmar, Bangladesh’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
Emrah made a wish on his 9th birthday unlike any other. Instead of a new toy car or a day at the amusement park, he wished to go to high school. He was raised in a village and never imaged being anything but a shepherd. Yet, he dreamt of getting that high school diploma. He wasn't sure how he would manage schoolwork as he worked part time to support his family. However, he was curious. He was hardworking and passionate.
Police officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) joined Turkish and American NGO's in a commemoration event held in Times Square for victims of the deadly PKK bombings in Istanbul on Dec. 10, which killed 44 people, including 36 police officers. NYPD Muslim Officers Society Chairman Adeel Rana said in a speech that NYPD officers had joined the event to support Turkish colleagues and to give a message of solidarity, adding that all the world should be united in the fight against terrorism. 
NEW YORK (June 30, 2016) -- The 2016 Summer Fancy Food Show, which ended Tuesday, was the largest in exhibit space since it was established in 1954. More than 2,670 exhibitors filled the halls of Javits Center in New York with the latest in specialty food and beverages from across the U.S. and 55 countries. Owned and produced by the Specialty Food Association, the show ran June 26 – 28. It is the largest such marketplace in North America. More than 47,000 specialty food professionals were in the exhibit halls, which spanned the equivalent of six football fields. "The show is the place to be to discover the latest in specialty food and what's next for stores and restaurants," says Laura Santella-Saccone, the Association's chief marketing officer. "Record sales for specialty food have contributed to the strength of our show."
